I certainly don't want Sumrall to bring in his entire Tulane staff. That reminds me of the Boise Boys where we just became a team filled with the best coaches Boise state could afford.
Auburn can afford alot better than what Tulane can.

I wish we could get Rhett. Should have done it last year.

Pretty sure that Sumrall knows AU can afford better options for assistants than Tulane. smdh

I would imagine they would have done at least decent with the talent we now have, although I think Mason was a weak point.
Would have imploded eventually with only 4 established recruiters on staff.
Obviously just different dynamics.

hat’s not really the point. Auburn is a top-10 to top-15 job nationally, if you’re interviewing someone to be the head coach, it’s because you believe they can build and lead a staff. If you don’t trust their ability to hire assistants, then you shouldn’t be interviewing them in the first place.
You can’t hire a head coach just because he’s the ‘hot name’ of this cycle and then turn around and dictate his coordinators. And if you want a rising OC like Faulkner, are you planning to dictate which support staff he can bring to run his offense, or does autonomy magically return once you get past the head coach?
This isn’t just about X’s and O’s — it’s about the power dynamics you establish inside the program. Undercutting the head coach from day one is how you destabilize your own hire.

I agree with you but since we don't see behind the screen it could be a number of things.
- OC Agent reached out to Cohen or HC Candidates & expressed interest
- HC choice is in favor of this OC
- Auburn may hire OC & talk about it in public to keep the recruits & players
- HC candidate wraps up their season
- HC won't be Durkin as if that was the case why wait to announce?
- Durkin may be the backup choice but I think a contract was already signed and they are waiting until Tulane's season is over
Just some thoughts...

Defense isn't it when Durkin is HC

Durka better figure this quick short pass shite out before the IB, because DeBoner runs a lot of it.

Then he should have given up play calling D. I am sure someone could have called it for him. That would have shown him more as a HC but I don't think they hire him for HC. If they do...well we will be yelling about it in a couple of years.

Holy bad days for Brohm and Key today. See if Tech can come back. Absolute disaster for a start for them.

Buster Faulkner and Kade Bell have both called some good plays early. Pitt is executing, GT is not.

Brohm isnt happy unless he is 8-4.

You serious Clark?!?
He played at UGA, was an assistant at Bama, coached at East Carolina then Wyoming, then Auburn?
He is a pretty famous coach at Auburn. Only the freaking field is named after him…

quote:my bad, the way the post was worded i thought he meant a former SEC player/assistant who became AU’s HC, then moved on to HC positions at lesser schools
You serious Clark?!?
thought he was referring to Tubs, but he wasn’t ever an SEC player (and was an assistant at TAMU before they joined the SEC)
mea culpa

Just looked to see where he is coaching these days and Bellichick hired him at UNC.
Eric Kiesau, who took over as WR coach then OC the next season, is an analyst at Florida currently.
That whole staff has scattered to all corners of the football world.
