The Sumrall stuff could be a smokescreen. You never know.

Agreed

Once the word is out that we're targeting Charles Kelly it'll be a mad rush to throw $$ at him

Do we let him stay and coach them or make him come on to Auburn

I say let him make the decision. You trust him to run you your football team, you trust him to say if he can handle both or not.

I would think he makes the overall game plan for Tulane's game and let's his coordinators handle the day to day of implementing it.

Unless he is bringing a good chunk of his current staff with him, make the hires/pick the keepers for the AU staff and let them deal with any recruiting fires leading up to signing day and players exploring their portal options.

Yeah we were using him as a smokescreen to pursue Bill Clark. Unfortunately Bill Clark just turned us down again.

any thoughts on Jeff Traylor? Current coach at UTSA, and extremely plugged into the Texas high school football. He's basically built the program from the ground up. Has very strong connections on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and is considered a very high level recruiter.. Just reading his resume and hearing him talk, he sounds like the prototypical AU coach everyone dreams about.. Auburn with access to the Texas, Alabama and Georgia pipeline would be nasty.

This is the guy no one seems to be talking about, but would definitely move the needle as soon as fans started digging into his background. He's very much on brand for Auburn in terms of culture, personality and fit.

Go look at UGA's roster. Geography is getting less important by the day, especially with NIL. Sure it can help all other things being equal, but no couple of prospect are that important.

Also that's why we shouldn't go full jack arse mode and hire the two most important positions based on having successfully coached lower level ball in Bama. Maybe just one, but certainly not two.

As a Baton Rouge resident watching the lane kiffin drama unfold it reminds me so much of what Auburn went through with him a few seasons ago. Although Auburn is currently going through a coaching search I'm very thankful that we are not hung up in the Lane drama again.

I also can't help but wonder - if Auburn ended up hiring Lane instead of Hugh - would we be in the same shoes as Ole Miss right now?

Built up that program, struggling this year. Pass to open the run. I personally would rather go get Chesney from JMU instead. I think he has done more with less over his carrier & has a lot of HC coaching experience but at smaller schools but he has a great record at those stops...more of a ground and pound than through the air...took over from Cig & had to rebuild that team at JMU through the portal after the starters either transferred to Indy ~9 or graduated.

possibly, but probably more a threat from the NFL than LSU/FL

not really that big of a disparity between AU and those two schools as there is between OM and them

Poker, at this point I don't know if you'd truly be happy with anyone we hire. I think if a name gets floated around long enough as the lead candidate, you'd find a way to talk yourself into not liking them no matter what.

Yea, I'd see NFL more than going to another college program. Assuming he has the success we *think* he would have with AU's resources and support and everything, NFL would be calling first.

Not true at all. I think Durkin would be a lazy, reach of a hire. Sumrall isn't a great hire in my opinion. He won at Troy then maintained what someone else built at Tulane. His OC candidates concern me. Those are the only 2 names that disgust me.

I have been praying for the right head coach to be hired and will continue to do so until an official announcement is made.

You know who his candidates are? We haven't even hired him yet.

Outside of random posters throwing stuff at a wall, I've not seen anything credible about any OC potentials.

Joe Craddock excite you? He learned under Chad Morris, and has followed Sumrall since. If only there were a way to know what Chad Morris' offensive philosophy looked like at Auburn.

It all seems like we are hell bent on a Gus like offense, more of the damn same if he's the OC. We need to make a clean break
