Besides documented ceilings on the field, Franklin’s documented scummy behavior off of the field makes him a hard no for me. There are several candidates with higher ceilings and no documented scandals out there we can easily get. I would put Durkin above Franklin.

Agree. They guy can't make it happen at Penn State with all of its resources, he won't make it here. Heck our heckling alone would make him so thin skinned. Durkin's stuff is on a different category. I don't know much about it. But getting pretty women to basically do his bidding is pretty sick. Remember when he said all of his coaches were recruiters? By saying did you look at their wives? while he was at Vandy? he said he doesn't hire anything but closers...

quote:Are you slow? A newly hired HC will be looking for a DC. Durkin is a top 3 DC right now. He's about to get a raise from somebody.
And none of the big schools are even considering him. So does he leave for UAB or something?

With all of the openings that are/will be happening. I believe he will get honest looks at schools.
Example: Kiffen to UF and brings in Durkin as DC because AU doesn't hire him
Or Brohm to Pedo U and takes Durkin with him.
Or He take a P4 or P5 HC coach Job that opens up.
I know we get mad at 3rd & Durkin but if we had a freaking offense that could score...most people wouldn't give a crap...because we would be talking about our spot in the ring of 12...

For HC. We are talking about head coaches in this thread. How do you not understand that’s what I was talking about? This isn’t a defensive coordinator search thread. And no school besides a UAB or something of that caliber would be considering Durkin for HC. Not Florida, not LSU, not PSU, etc.

Honest question do you think a program like Penn State which was reeling from the pedophile would overlook the claims and not investigate the scandal.
I think Franklin is an absolute dick and do not want him in Auburn unless we have to but the question has me leaning into Franklin checked out.

Jon Sumrall's Coaching AchievementsJon Sumrall, currently in his second season as head coach of the Tulane Green Wave (as of November 2025), has built an impressive resume as both an assistant and head coach, emphasizing defensive schemes, program turnarounds, and consistent winning at the Group of Five level. A former standout linebacker at Kentucky (where he led the team in tackles in 2004), Sumrall transitioned to coaching after a career-ending injury and has amassed a career head coaching record of 38-11 (.776 winning percentage) over four seasons, including a 1-1 bowl record. Below is a breakdown of his key achievements by role and program.Assistant Coaching HighlightsSumrall's early career focused on defensive line and coordinator roles, where he developed standout players and defenses:Program

Key Achievements
Troy Trojans (Sun Belt Conference)
2022–2023
23-4 (.852)
Won back-to-back Sun Belt Conference championships (2022, 2023)—one of only two programs (with Michigan) to do so consecutively. Guided Troy to 23 wins (tied for 3rd-most nationally) and two double-digit win streaks. 2022: 12-2 record, 11-game win streak (2nd-longest nationally), first-ever major poll rankings (No. 19 AP, No. 20 Coaches), first Sun Belt title game appearance/host, first 12-win FBS season, and Cure Bowl win (18-12 over No. 23 UTSA)—the only bowl pitting two conference champs. 2023: 11-game win streak to end season, Sun Belt title game win (48-23 over App State), and Birmingham Bowl berth. Named Sun Belt Coach of the Year (2022) and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year finalist (2022, 2023). Hosted record crowd of 31,000+ vs. Army (2022).
Tulane Green Wave (AAC)
2024–present
15-7 (.682, through 2025 Week 10)
2024: 9-4 record, AAC West Division title, and Gasparilla Bowl appearance (loss). 2025: 6-1 start despite losing key transfers (e.g., QB Darian Mensah to Duke, RB Makhi Hughes to Oregon); 3-0 in AAC play early, maintaining 6-0 all-time AAC record under Sumrall. Signed contract extension post-2024 amid Power Four interest (e.g., North Carolina, West Virginia). Ranks 4th among active FBS head coaches in winning percentage (28-6 through 2024). Instilled physical, defensive identity leading to consistent bowl eligibility.
Sumrall's overall impact includes developing over 20 All-Conference players, fostering high-energy cultures, and excelling in recruiting the Southeast. His defenses consistently rank high in disruptions (sacks, turnovers), and he's praised for transparency and player development. As of late 2025, he's a top candidate for Power Four jobs (e.g., SEC speculation around LSU), but remains committed to Tulane's rise.

I’m Brohm or Dilly Dilly. Either one could give Durkin a raise and Asst. HC title and we in business next year. No three year crap. Next year!
Then DJ can do his thing and be at the tops of the lists for next years openings.
Strategery.

Brohm's high-scoring pro-style offense with a strong defense would be a nice combination, I'm on board with that.

Three teams in all of CFB have given up 24 points or less in every game this year..........
#1 Ohio State SOS #42 8-0
#2 Indiana SOS#33 9-0
... Auburn SOS#26 4-5
You are absolutely correct.
It honestly is a credit to Durkin and our defensive players that they haven't just up and quit at this point.
