Morris is already off the table, and Golesh is too probably. I think i saw that the Golesh to Arky thing might be a little premature though, so who knows.
I absolutely would take Chesney in a heartbeat though.

I think Chesney might be my favorite of the smaller conference coaches. But I do t think we go after him. Maybe.
I still say, don’t be surprised if it’s a Lincoln Riley or Dilly come Sunday. I just have a feeling they leaked Sumrall early to get the hounds off the scent while they worked. It’s been a buttoned up search.

I don't think anyone knows anything for certain. Hope you're right though

The thing i find odd, is that i haven't seen Riley's name floated anywhere, at least not seriously. there was some small rumblings that he was unhappy at USC because they haven't given him everything that they promised when he was hired, but other than that, all the chatter at AU, LSU, FL, OM, Penn St. has been either Kiffin, Sumrall, Dilly, Golesh and the likes.
There's been some misunderstanding to his buyout by a lot of people thinking it would cost upwards of around 80-90 mil to buy him out, but this isn't true. his buyout if he leaves is only around 10mil, so pretty reasonable for any big school that's serious. I admit, it would be interesting if Kiffin bolted to LSU, Sumrall to OM and then Sunday, we announce Riley.

I’ve said this at work all week and people laugh but it’s a realistic option to me. Would we be happy about it? Idk.

We will end up with Durkin. It's definitely a done deal if he upsets Bama. The fact they have already said they will announce after the IB shows they had their hands on the guy they were hiring already.
No quality candidate is going to jump on board that early in the search and leave their program and sign by Saturday.

Morris has already signed with Okie State. He currently has North Texas at 10-1 with another game left and a possible playoff spot. He is going to coach the rest of the NT season, but has already been announced at Okie State.
So I could see Sumrall doing something similar, especially now that Morris has already done it. (If indeed Sumrall is the main target).

Anyone have any idea who our next Athletic Director might be?

I would, I dunno about anybody else, but I would take Riley without batting an eye.

"IF" Cohen flubs this hire, which i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt ATM because i don't really think that Freeze was truly his hire, then I don't think it matters who the next AD is because it would show that we have a serious problem from the top down, that we don't have any clue what we're doing. that's going nuclear though and i don't think we're quite there yet, at least i hope not.

Its still Sumrall. We got smoke for days from multiple sources about it. One day of shite slinging aint enough to convince me otherwise.
But by all means dude keep holding out hope it's Dan Lanning.

I agree. I was just throwing out the Riley scenario for shits and giggles. Sunday just can't get here fast enough because i wanna see OM fans melt when Kiffin bolts and we announce Sumrall.

Sumrall's pine box gonna look badass with that AU on it

AU Star is correct coaches are accepting positions at other schools and finishing the season.
Remember Kirby Smart at one time was the DC at Alabama and the head coach of Georgia.

Id be over the moon happy. Anybody that says they would rather have a p4 coach because he speaks good is in denial of the reality. Hiring someone because they are the hot name in coaching searches has burned many teams before us.
If we hire Riley we have hired one of the most proven coaches available, but there are no guarantees when it comes down to who will Win

I’m not sure I agree with the first part and I completely agree with the second part which is my hesitation about Riley. It’s going to take a lot of money and a long-term commitment to land him who at the end of the day is a huge risk. If they’re both huge risks why not go with the risk that requires the least level of commitment? If you hitch your wagon to Riley who has been mediocre at best recently you’re going to be stuck with him for a long time

But you don't seem to get it. Because USC is on the hook for nearly $80 million if they were to fire him, Riley would be asking for a PAY INCREASE from what he is already making at USC in order to leave that cushy setup. He makes $11.5 million a year already, and because he has USC's nuts in a vice-grip he can just sit there knowing that they can't fire him because his buyout is so absurd. Therefore to make him leave and come to your program, you need to BEAT his current contract.
So the actual question you need to be asking yourself is whether you want Auburn to pay $10 million to buy him out from USC, and then hand him a salary increase to something like $12-13+ million a year for 6-7+ seasons....for a coach who is producing ~8 wins a year over the past 3 seasons. In what way does that seem palpable?

I can’t feel it.
Would “palatable” be a better word choice?
I can’t taste it either.

He isn't even as remotely proven as you think he is. He took over a finished product at Oklahoma that was already dominating a weak Big 12 (with Texas sucking at the time) and he continued driving the ship. Bob Stoops went 11-2 in each of his final two seasons before Riley took over. Then he left for USC which was an actual rebuild of sorts, and he has grossly underperformed expectations given the albatross contract that USC gave him.
So he has had one sample where he has had to actually "build" a program himself, and the results have been extremely pedestrian.

Could also be we had zero offense and no one really had to take chances vs our D.
Yup. People forget that Freeze said he slowed down the offense to help the defense.
