Why don't you go get yourself some board rank and ban me.

That’s a nice, simple plan but it’s not that nice and simple. People who would fall into that “sick” category have asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and other common diseases. Then you have to think about the fact that a family member could fall into one of those categories, that means everyone else in the house has to take the same precautions so they don’t bring it into the house.

So again, the whole “if you’re at risk just stay home” is great at first glance, not so great from a practical standpoint.

Put a little thought into this and tell me where the flaw is.

People with peanut allergies shouldn't eat peanuts because they could die. Everyone else should not be banned from eating peanuts because a small portion of society is allergic to them.

The people at risk of dying from this virus should take precautions while everyone else continues to work and spend money. It would be better for everyone.

Again, tell me where the flaw is in your logic.

ETA You do know young people get this virus, right?

Yeah, you stay home sick just as you would with the flu.

So you think the elderly/at risk people should stay holed up while the young 'uns swap this virus from one to the next......however long that takes? That is some brilliant fricking logic on your part.

I've probably lost 2-3 years worth of retirement in 401K just in the past 3 months. Is it upsetting, yes, but I'm not going to act like a fool about money I have never had in my hand to begin with.

My personal thoughts on all the situations as of this moment in time is to be more selfless. To look out for you fellow humans. To be kind to one another, to be more understanding, and to work together. We still have no idea how this will play out but with a parent that is 82 I hope like heck she thinks that her baby boy is being the kind of man she thought she raised if this bug gets her.

Life has to go on. Parents with careers have to do their jobs. Nobody will take care of the family nor pay the bills for them. Those with the underlying issues obviously should be more careful of their surroundings given their known issues.

That would have been useful a month ago. We still have the issue of our healthcare system to deal with. We’ve focused mostly on the economy the last few pages.

Our hospitals are already highly utilized. When I was doing financial studies at UAB half a decade ago, they were diverting ambulances to other hospitals almost daily. Now you add in the rise in utilization from a novel virus and we’re over capacity really, really quickly.

Even though the 20-60 year olds will likely survive the virus, even healthy adults in this age range are utilizing hospital beds and ventilators for treatment. One of the reported reasons why Italy’s (and Spain’s) death toll is so high is because doctors are making decisions to treat the young over the old

Still do. It's like clockwork. Every day you can count on UAB going on divert at about 11.

It's especially bad for other hospitals in the area now with Trinity shifting to Grandview on 280 and Carraway shutting its doors.

ETA Its vs. It's. fricking grammar.

Glad we had this urgency with H1N1 and glad the economy is tanked as a precaution.

I'm not at a high risk of dying, but I still don't want to get sick. Getting sick sucks. I don't want to work or interact with sick people and I sure as hell don't work if I'm sick. It doesn't seem like that would be better for anyone.

This thing can be in your system for 14 days before you show symptoms. In that time, you can think you're fine and spread it to others, who can spread it to their immunocompromised loved ones.

It's better for everyone to do what we are doing with social distancing. Get over it.

A bunch of people in this thread don’t own a small business. This overreaction is killing our economy. The guys with deep pockets will be fine. It’s the small people like us that will be crippled.

The hospitals are taking lots of measures. Northside, where my wife works, will not let you in the hospital if you are not a patient without screening. Most dont make it in after.

There are some real dumbasses in this thread and some of them are the same that are dumbasses about everything else. Everyone just needs to calm the frick down, do what you are being asked to do for the betterment of everyone.

Take is seriously, dont panic. Its a real thing and is not to be taken lightly. Spreads very easily and can be very dangerous to people with preexisting medical concerns.

This is not a plow to destroy the country and it is important that people do as they are told and not try to take advantage of the situation or go full Walking Dead.

Just everyone calm the frick down, do as you are being asked to do and lets ride this bitch out together.
