Running a football program today is expensive and takes large piles of cash.

The BOT has the power to ruin the football program because they are willing to pay.

I am a Auburn graduate and huge fan of Auburn athletics. I watch every football game and 80% of the basketball games.

I'm off today and planned my schedule to watch today's basketball game.

Yet, I don't give money to the athletic department.

If I and the millions like me gave a few hundred to a few thousand a year the boosters would lose their power because the athletic department would not need them to operate.

To those who already donate to the University..... Thank you.

There is some logic to this.

Playing devil's advocate...

After seeing how these bozos run things the past few years, i can understand folks hesitating to donate to the athletic department.

They were ready to stop if Gus continued as HC..

...now they get to do the same thing if we don't get an upgrade hire in place.

At this point, unless a miracle happens, whoever will be hired now, will cause many, many supporters to stop going, and giving their money to the football program.

And they thought Covid, caused a revenue drain...just wait.

Yep and only a few guys put up most of that money. Is it any wonder they want some part in the decision making process? I mean when it's their money, can you blame them?

Not saying it results in the best decisions, but it's sorta the way the world works. It's unfortunate but it's no surprise really.

Totally get what you are saying but most of these folks made their money and you would think that they would approach this in the same way. Put the right people in place to make the good decisions. i.e. pick the best AD and trust them. Don't try to put your dude in that place as they will ultimately screw it up as they are unqualified. Notice that the cross state rivals are enjoying their time in the limelight year end and year out...

That's his point. If it were spread out amongst us poors, who care about results and not access, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Your post only makes sense if you assume they are running it like a business.

It's an ego thing for them. They aren't paying for Auburn to be the best, they're paying to be involved. That much is clear.

Exactly. It's an opportunity to play out Jerry Jones fantasies.

I'm in the same boat, but I've about to have multiple students there and tuition is high as frick.

My dad gives and has tickets and I've just attached to his seats over the years. I guess I should have donated on my own, but that ship has sailed until these free-loaders get off my payroll.

Valid point. I’m assuming that’s where my Tigers Unlimited donations go each year. Who knows where that goes though.

Think we have roughly 240k living alumni (per Auburn Alumni Association website). Pony up $500 apiece should do the trick.

Naw....f all that noise.

I'd rather continue giving my money to charities and churches that i can vet that actually help humanity as opposed to things that are poorly managed and that make rich people richer. I already do that enough involuntarily with my taxes.

I’m not sure you can work as a profit making enterprise as a land grant school. Not sure but I think something would be against the law there. So essentially they have to have the money budget out if any is left over from year to year

Y’all want to start a lottery pool and donate the winnings to the athletic department?

Auburns donor pool is definitely a factor... we don’t have the massive alumni base and sidewalk following that a lot of our competition has... making us more reliant on large-sum donors. An unfortunate byproduct is these donors want to be heavily involved.

It is what it is... consistent success could drag us out of this... but it’s probably always going to be an inherent problem.
