Don't remember the podcast but someone with Bmarcello was saying he's talked to other coaches and Auburn is by far the easiest to scheme and prep for.

They said the same about Gus, at least after Marshall left.

Rolling the dice at 7.5 or so for James Franklin would just be a hard opportunity for me to pass up in favor of paying someone like Sumrall the same amount.

See my post above. I think the odds are actually stacked against Franklin.

And which coach of those two do you think is the hungriest? It’s a big chance with either.

My biggest question right now is, why DON'T we have any direct interviews with Derrick Nix, Jake Thornton or Kent Austin, we just don't get to hear from those folks anymore. Sure the Running game has been fine when we use our RBs as his side role as RB coach, but why can't we get some direct from them. I know they used to do so on radio after the game with one or two coaches, is that something they've done this year?

It's arguably a data point. I'm not against stacking the data points that don't favor Franklin. I do think it's probably limited in utility for us. National title is a high standard. I don't expect Franklin or whoever the next coach is to win one, so while again - a data point - it's not one I particularly prioritize.

Candidly, Franklin. A guy who won pretty big at a place that was still reeling from the most impossible of circumstances over a long stretch, and was pushed out the door quickly and without ceremony.

I'd entertain the arguments for Sumrall and I'm not particularly passionate about either argument. But I'm also just not sure how "hungry" sits on my list of priorities either. To the extent you mean a sociopath level HC, I agree, and I think there is a good argument both probably are that to get to this level. Franklin explicitly made that pitch recently, although I don't expect you (or me) to take his word for it. But he sounds like he understands it's a priority for the big programs with vacancies.

For me, putting them up against each other it's

Hard nosed, traditional, southern HC of the type we're comfortable with and who knows our footprint pretty well, but with a big question mark of translating that to a program of our size/pressure/etc.

vs.

Hard nosed, managerial/NFL style HC of the type we've never had, who has some (dated) familiarity with our footprint, understands recruiting better than most, and who has dealt with all the things that accompany high level CFB for a long time. Big downsides being his last school getting tired of him.

I do like this stat for Franklin. Hard to argue with this one.

Most players in the NFL per college

College Number of Players

Alabama 62
Georgia 57
Ohio State 57
Michigan 44
LSU 39
Notre Dame 39
Penn State 38

I feel like the days of relating to kids is less so with NIL which is probably why Saban retired, I believe early. While that can be true a number of kids say they came to Auburn because of the family feel we have here, but I still think money speaks louder. I like the way Sumrall has grown Tulane's non-existent team to what it is now, but to me I believe Auburn's biggest issue isn't Hugh it's the guys he chose on the offensive side of the ball with an OC that isn't the one calling plays.

This stat makes him look even worse, not better.

What this stat actually says is that his abysmal record against ranked opponents actually happened while he fielded among the most NFL talent in the country.

For example, you are showing that Michigan had just 6 more NFL players, and yet his record head-to-head against Michigan was 3-7.

I think the NFL/blue chip stats can go both ways.

But Franklin would have "I can put you in the league" credibility that none of our recent coaches (or most other candidates) can match.

Honestly, I'd be excited to see Cam as interim HC if for nothing more than to make the rest of the season watchable

So UF is supposedly going after Kiffen 1 and Marcus Freeman, 2. Aiming high with proven coaches. Who are we looking at? I’d say go after Kiffen again esp if we retain D staff. Who’s second?

I agree. We won't. Rhett Lashler is our ceiling. Our hire will leave us perplexed or disappointed, most likely both

I dont trust the source who put that out.

For all we know an Ole Miss fan "leaked" that out so that Kiffin could see he was not first choice for Florida.
