Saw this tweet so disappointed in the conduct of our coaches in supporting false narratives that is spewed by the media and BLM. There is no injustices being performed by the Cops they are absolutely doing their jobs. The longer we acknowledge these falsehoods the longer this ignorance and bigoted behavior will continue. Around 1300 people per year are shot by the police. Around 300 are black. So 2/3’s aren’t black so how are cops out hunting down black men? Unarmed shootings by police last year were 19 whites and 9 blacks. I think 8 latino and 4 other. Again where is this “systemic”.

I will admit that some sentences appear to be more harsh in general to minority POC. But still these are convicted criminals and why we have sentencing guidelines for the judges.

But our coaches should be logically discussing this with the players and not enabling the untruths to be manifested into society. I also understand some coaches have to do some things because of recruiting but this garbage carries over to the court or the field I am out. I will not watch nor support.

Well get ready then, because this IS going to carry over to the court and field. Why? b/c everyone will be watching and provides the most impact of what these college players want to express. If it's happening on the professional level it is now going to follow to the college levels, now that these players feel they have more power.

I agree with how they express it, but it seems that its being flooded now, to the point it's over-hyped.

I don’t believe the narrative that cops are hunting black people and have some major issues with the organization of BLM, but this lazy/bad research. White people make up 76% of the population and (based on these numbers) accounted for less than half of these shootings. Then you have black people which make up 13% of the population and accounted for almost 1/4 of the shootings.

As to the issue of coaches/programs making political statements, whether we like it or not this is the current reality. I have zero problem with someone exercising their first amendment right to speak their mind so long as they aren’t violating someone else’s rights in the process.

I’m much more concerned with whether or not we’ve found a legit scoring threat at the 2 than I am about players/coaches having an opinion that I agree or disagree with.

Regardless of the numbers percentages and all that there is no system of racism by the police. This is a complete joke. You have to also take into account police interactions with certain groups of people and therefore increased interactions means great probably of a bad incident. I don’t want to shut down people’s abilities to express themselves as long as it’s legal. But BLM is a Marxist organization and in reality has nothing to do with justice police or anything other then creating division and overthrowing society and possibly the government.

My stance falls in line similar to Jason Whitlock’s from outkick. BLM for him stands for Bigots Love Marxist.

And it’s not lazy research it’s the hard facts provided by the FBI statistics. I provide the data you can come to your own conclusions from those statistics.

I would say your own research is flawed. Non latino whites only make up 60 percent of the population not 76. You have add another “minority group” into that population number to get to 76. %

Oh DID HE?!

quote:

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Wednesday evening named the officer who shot Jacob Blake and provided additional information about the shooting.

Blake had a knife on the driver's side floorboard and had no other weapons, the DOJ said in a news release.

The officer who shot Blake seven times is Rusten Sheskey, on the Kenosha police force for seven years. He has been placed on administrative leave.

So you cannot see a knife in his hand but you can see sunglasses?

Witness says he didn't see a knife.

But does confirm cops were asking him to drop a knife multiple times. are you trying to argue they were making up a knife?

quote:

Because if he'd have had a knife in his hands when they were on the other side of the car, that's where they would have shot him.

They have already said they didn’t see the knife until he started walking around the car, which is exactly when it has been confirmed they started yelling at him to drop the knife.

quote:

But most importantly...how is he a threat WALKING away to where it warrants being shite in the back 7 times? Even if he had a knife, He's not Shinobi

Man has physical altercation with cops, resists arrest attempt, does not stop after a taser, does not stop after a second taser, all while cops restrain from using any type of deadly force. Then he reaches into a car to the point the cops have absolutely no idea what he could be grabbing. You want to complain about him shooting 7 times, go for it, I’m not contesting that point. If you think shooting at that point was still unjustified though, you’re being delusional.

I can get 7 shots off in less than 4 seconds, EASY. If I perceive a deadly threat I'm worried about stopping that threat, doesn't matter if it's 1 bullet or 25 bullets.

If he would have just complied and went to jail for his rape charge then this wouldn't have happened.

There are a million threads talking about this throughout this website. frick all of you for bringing it to a million and one using the Auburn basketball thread. What is wrong with you people that you have turned every thread on a sports website into a PoliBoardThread

Now you snowflakes are going to get upset that I called you out and want to respond, attacking me. Fine, just do it in another damn thread. Stop ruining the basketball thread you degenerates

I don't care if I agree/disagree with you either. You aren't solving the world's problems from the AU basketball thread

You're right, Lawson.

Jacob Blake is a good boy and should not have been harassed (and especially not shot repeatedly) by those evil white cops.

He should be celebrated for the hero that he is. #CriminalLivesMatter

I am fully anticipating that Joe Biden will be wheeling him out at a speaking engagement somewhere prior to the election to receive his due praise.

I also expect that he will be receiving a Nobel Peace prize.

Because after all, he is a good boy.

Gene...

AUNashville posted something from the basketball team's official Twitter that was political regarding them "boycotting" practice due to the Jacob Blake situation.

It is unfortunate, but that is the current climate that we live in. To say that we are ruining the Auburn Basketball thread (it is the off-season btw) by discussing something that THEY tweeted is ridiculous.

Blame Bruce Pearl, blame Allen Greene, blame the players, blame the cops, blame Jacob Blake... But don't blame posters on this board for commenting on content that our basketball team is giving us.

Without interjecting my opinion on the protest, I'll actually agree that it's a relevant thing to discuss

It sucks because I don't want politics intertwined with sports for this very reason

Sadly that's where we are as a society
