Maaaan, can you imagine this team with Chuma, Jared, and Okoro right now?

Nobody knows with a hammy.
Can someone help me out with some kind of theory on how a basketball player can regress so mightily as Purifoy? Is it all mental? He is useless at this point, not even a solid 5-10 minute role player.

I was thinking the same thing last night.

Yep

No its not all mental.
The only shot he really has is a 3 pt attempt. Have you seen him try to shoot inside the arc?
Can he drive and get points? no.
Can he get points inside off Offensive rebounds? No.
Is he a good defender? No. He's ok.
If you look at his stats, he is doing similar to last year. He had a game here and there where his points were pivotal but it was after Okeke went down.
He simply is no longer a high production player like he was his Freshman year.
If he is not on, he is just not going to score much.

He’s actually done all of these things this year
He just seems to get lazy or check out for weeks at a time.

Purifoy's shooting issues appear to be all mechanics related in my opinion.
First from shoulders up everything looks great. Arm placement, hand placement, motion, rotation all look very good.
Then move down the body when he is shooting he is leaning his upper body forward at his hips causing his shot to be more flat then normal and therefore causing his biggest issues on his shot front rimming everything.
Third would be he isn't getting vertical he's sorta jumping forward. Could be mental because he's coming up short from the flat shot mentioned above that he's having issues getting the ball to the basket. I'm definitely not a shooting mechanics expert but I can clearly see that major flaw. So for me I say put in his mind to get vertical and a hair more arc on his shot and maybe he starts drilling some of his 3s.
He is the only shooter on the team that can go from ehh to great because he has the cleanest form.

Hate to say it. But could our shooting regression be related to losing Chuck Person?
Posted on 2/20/20 at 5:50 pm to CorchJay
I think it’s more related to losing Brown, Harper and Okeke.

I really think that Purifoy is really affected by the move back of the 3 pt line.
Some guys have a limit on how far they can consistently hit their 3's. When I see Purifoy shoot 3's, sometimes his shot has good arc, sometimes it looks flat and almost line-drive like.
I do agree with you that I think his issues stem from his lower body not working consistent on his jump shot.

You better send me the video on those things. It will be a short video too...
I think he just is not comfortable off the dribble. He wants to setup around the arc and shoot 3's mostly.

Oh for sure it will be short. I’m just saying he’s shown he can, no clue why he doesn’t. He has probably the second best non-Okoro dunk of the year.

No. Those guys weren’t good shooters because of Chuck lol

I misunderstood your take. I thought you meant HCs/staff don't try to rebuild shots
I agree that Bruce personally is not the guy to rebuild a shot. We should however bring in a full time shot doctor on staff

Yeah i agree. Even with a shot doctor though, you’ve got to have players who are willing to put in the work. You can know perfect form but gotta get the muscle memory.
Bruce recruits generally are the type that will put in the work.

Chuck was the shooting mechanics coach and Bruce gave him tons of credit for how well our shooting was due to Chuck's coaching. Hell he's a POS sure but heck of a shooting coach.
