jhead34282 (a pretty informed poster on Rivals for Bball stuff) seems to think that it is Brandin Knight, not confirmed but he has heard that.

Knight is currently an ASST at Rutgers, but before that was Jamie Dixon's chief recruiter at Pitt. He was all Big-East at Pitt as a player and is a big time recruiter in the NE and SE. Also is really good friends with Omar Cooper, the coach/director of Nike AAU team of Athletes of Tomorrow in ATL. The significance? That's the AAU team for Isaac Okoro and Sharife Cooper.

Would be a pretty big time hire.
Another usually informed poster autigers07, said BK is the reason Rutgers is putting up a fight with us on Okoro.

Just posted he was told by 2 sources we are very close to a hire but it's not Knight but the hire is expected to be as impactful as Knight.

Auburn's Bruce Pearl will hire Penn's Ira Bowman as an assistant coach, per a source. Replaces Harris Adler.

For those of us that don't follow basketball closely, is this a good hire?

Is this good? Should I be happy? I’m going to assume it’s good.

Bowman comes to Auburn after spending the past six seasons at the University of Pennsylvania under head coach Steve Donahue. He was instrumental in the recruitment of team's top players and in the on-court development of the Quakers' perimeter players.

Last season, Bowman helped lead Penn to a 24-9 record, an Ivy League title and a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 seasons. It was the Quakers' first conference crown since 2006-07.

Bowman guided seven all-conference players during his tenure at Penn, including three during the 2017-18 season, and helped lead the Quakers to 74 wins.

Supposedly has connections to a big AAU coach in UGA

Looks like he has ties to the East also, especially the NE. Expanding our recruiting grounds can't hurt.

Hungry guy getting out of his comfort territory with a lot to prove. Often times pays big dividends on the recruiting trail and he has the background (Ivy League, NBA stint, international) to open ears.

I don’t know that we needed that much help with on-court strategy so not concerned about his contribution there so much

Isn't on the court stuff what Adler did so well last year?

You sure you're not confusing this info with the guy that was #1 on the list, Knight, the assistant at Rutgers? He has the connections to AAU and Atlanta.

Bowman...I have no idea if he has any connections to AAU and Atlanta?

Supposedly he does have a connection with the Atlanta AAU team Okoro and others play on. Knight did as well, but Bowman is also connected to Omar Cooper.

I like the hire a lot personally. Penn had a great year last year and Bowman is young and hungry. Coming from a smaller school like this is great IMO. He’s got to prove himself as a great recruiter and coach on a higher level and I think he’ll work really hard to do that. Adler was our connection in the NE because he’s from philly so it’ nice to replace that as well.

We offered combo guard Mylik Wilson from Rayville Louisiana. Appears to be a 4* on Scout and Rivals.

With the combination of the hires (Q6, Wes Flanny, Bowman), we realistically did as well as we could have hoped. I'm not a Bowman expert, but I know he has a good reputation as a young assistant

Also, Marquis Daniels gives a lot of "cool factor" and "NBA legitimacy" we were missing even as just a GA

You have to remember, coaching under Bruce is a risky career move just for his history of scandals + current uncertainty about FBI case

So the fact we got two respected assistant coaches (Flanigan/Bowman) + Daniels to be a GA is an incredible haul
