Not sure who wants to come and ride the bench with the only shot of playing time being if Harper/Doughty/Brown get injured

Agreed. Going to be difficult to convince anyone with maybe 5 minutes of PT per game. About the only lure we have is the promise of an NCAA tournament appearance.

Even with an injury to a guard, the player would likely only be a 10-15 mpg option

If it is that important to Doughty, he could start over Brown/Harper too

But, he won't be. He will be starting at the 3 for the first 9 games which is the entire point of my post. Sure, they could shuffle it around and have Purifoy bump up the line and start Harper/Doughty/Purifoy or any other combo of the top 4 guards but conventional wisdom says it will likely come down to the two guys who aren't all SEC vets at the 3.

Also, SF is really incorrect terminology in regards to our system but that's beside the point.

Has it been mentioned yet that Marquis Daniels is joining the staff as a GA?

That isn't even a given considering Malik Dunbar is a returning player who plays SF

There is a clear difference between Pearl's 2 and 3 in his offense.

So while SF may not be technically correct, wing is appropriate in a way that isn't applicable to the 2

Now, Bruce can and has modified the offense to accommodate 3 guards, but traditionally 3 is effectively a SF

And, I disagree. While they are separate positions.. every single action in the entire playbook for the 2 and 3 are designed for the same skill set.

Recently backed off his pledge to transfer to UT. I've read there has been some contact and mutual interest.

In a flex offense, you really want all players to have similar, well rounded skill sets. So this doesn't mean all that much though

While the 2/3 need to have similar skillsets, from my understanding the 3 generally is preferred/asked to be a top finisher around the rim and be able to post up off cutting actions. The 2 meanwhile is normally the recipient of a skip pass for catch and shoots or catch and drives from the arc

The big difference for Bruce's typical offense in the 2/3 is the flex/down screen combo he runs primarily for the 3 to post up on the block, which many college 2s don't have that size advantage.... Which Mustapha refused to do despite being his perfect play, it infuriated me watching him go through the motions of this instead of be aggressive

Also, Bruce generally uses his 2s as catch and shoot 3 guys from the skip pass while the play side flex screen action is initiated on the 3 to cut inside

Think Tyler Smith

Think Chris Lofton

I love this move!! Just as with Chuck, there’s something to be said for having a guy with a successful NBA career teach these young very talented guys.

Auburn will be hosting Naheim Alleyne, Quincy Ademokoya, Christian Wright and Deivon Smith today. All Class of 2020 prospects. Bruce Pearl continues to work the Peach State as hard as any coach.

Have a question, didn't tbe NCAA do away with hardship waivers? Anybody remember our safety Khari Harding that tried to transfer home and play immediately because his dad had cancer and he was denied the waiver? How is Mustapha getting to apply for the waiver?
According to this link, waivers are substituted for an extra year at the tail end of the 4 year career.

Amazing to see McLemore moving like this so soon after his injury.

I want to say they nixed it after a year or two because it was so unpopular. NCAA doesn't even have the amendment linked on their website anymore

Jerry Meyer did a Q&A thread today & someone asked about AU's 2019 class. Said AU in good spot with Issac Okoro & that Jaykwon Walton & Jaylin Williams are a couple of other names to monitor FWIW

-Jaylin Williams, along with about 20 other recruits visited this past weekend.

-The 5 year extension of Bruce Pearl was extremely important. AD Greene has been going on recruiting visits with coaches to reinforce his commitment to Pearl/Program and to relieve any doubts, due to negative recruiting and a cloud of suspicion(NCAA,FBI,Job,etc..) If the extension did anything, it solidified those feelings..

Thank Paw, i might actually have some time tonight to provide some insight and recruiting updates..

Some things to share with the board..

-Never been more excited about Auburn Basketball moving forward and where we're at as a program with Bruce Pearl at the helm. He is special and we're fortunate to have a coach with his infectious spirit. Defending 2017-18 SEC Champs! And we're going to be even better this coming year.. in defending our crown.

On to recruiting..

-Akingbola is a Senior at MacEachern High, completing 3 years there and 1 back home. He'll either enroll at Auburn in 2018 or have to attend prep school. Along those lines, I must also point out that Batman(Akingbola), Superman(Okoro) and Spiderman(Cooper) are all best friends and want to play with each other in college. Okoro and Cooper are heavy AU leans at this time. These 3 players are special, program defining and would provide the foundation moving forward if we were fortunate enough to have them.

-No word on 2018 GT/JUCO PG

-We basically know where we stand with the 2019 class and already working hard on the 2020-21 classes..

-Pearl hosted about 20 recruits and their families this past weekend. Breakdown below..

2019 Class

1. Isaac Okoro- Heavy AU lean.
2. Jaylin Williams- Visited this past weekend. No one in the 2019 class has visited Auburn more times over the last few years and by a wide margin. We started recruiting JW as a freshman in HS. Our Assistant Coach at the time, Chad Dollar was hired by UGA in early April. Battle between Auburn, UGA, Xavier and Louisville. Look for him on the AAU circuit this summer. He is like McLemore but with a more developed perimeter game at this point in his career. 6'7 210 PF Lefty.
3. Brenden Tucker- visited this past weekend. Another Georgia standout. Clemson, Xavier, UGA, and GTech are his favorites at this time.
4. Kobe Brown- Taking a wait and see approach. No idea..
5. Jaykwon Walton- We offered but late to the game and he seems to be all BAMA.

Seemingly out of it with the rest.. Watford, C.Brown, K.Lewis, O. Payne, CJ Walker..

Speaking of Bama, they're recruiting at a very high level and landing Watford would be big for them.

Bama, UGA, Xavier and Clemson have been our main competitors in recruiting..

2020 Class

1. Shariffe Cooper Jr- Heavy AU lean. Offers from everyone.
2. Austin Harvell- visited this past weekend. SG from Athen, Al. A lot has offered.
3. Rongie Gordon Jr- visited this past weekend. PF from Montgomery, Al(Lanier) Several has offered.
4. Quincy Ademokoya- visited this past weekend. SF from Dacula, GA. Several has offered.
5. Christian Wright- visited this past weekend. PG from Alpharetta, GA(Milton). A few has offered.
6. Brandon "BJ" Boston

2021 class

1. Deshaun Ruffin- visited this past weekend. Extremely impressive youngster. PG that averaged 20 points as a freshman for a powerhouse program in Callaway, MS.
