They are also good teammates who genuinely love the team.

Maybe Stretch could have absorbed some fouls and Moore playing more would not have been a big step down from Cambridge and Flanagan(this year)

Exactly. Thank you for this post. Guys not playing are not wasted scholarships. If injuries occur you need guys ready to plug holes competently even if it’s a different look for the team with them out there.

Bruce did a media rundown on the season today if anyone caught it. Was a good listen. Bruce praised Jabari and Walker a lot. Again pointed to JayWill really gonna have a big season next year. Was about to talk about Yohan but stopped himself and moved on. Talked about possibly peaking to early around end of January first of Feb. Mentioned that it could have been because of the non-con schedule being difficult and really pushing the team to get better quickly. (Bruce is candid but I think he was also implying that they didn’t get to develop as much without saying it). Biggest thing to me he said was we shot like shite, his words, this season. He thanked Devin and seemed to not really want him to go but understood Devin wanted an increased role.

Bruce was asked if the nba should implement a 2 years removed to stop the 1 and done. Bruce likes the free market and the free country. His words. So no was his answer.

There were other questions about the portal and such but nothing significant about his answers that stood out to me. Oh said many bigs have entered to portal and was interested in Auburn but Bruce didn’t think they were a fit. Said they must be a fit with Dylan, Stretch, and JayWill to be able to come here. Fit and complement I think is how he stated it.

This is true but I think we are riding with 11 this year again. I think Bruce is trying to get this probation stuff over quickly as possible as far as scholarship reductions.

Pearl said he wants a quick rebound and said we “shot like shite”
last season.

He wants to add some shooters and one more big to complement our current roster+ Traore.

Wonder if he is comfortable rolling with Stretch + Cardwell as the main 5 rotation and then going small ball with Traore in key spots if we don't get Broome?

I can’t tell you I’m comfortable with huge minutes for either Stretch or Cardwell lol

defintely stretch.

Stretch has NEVER shown any offense, and if all it is is his D, then I dont need a backup going in producing zero points.

He really hasn't played much either in the 3 years he's been here.

CArdwell has a chance to be a better offensive guy. Potential is there fore sure.

But I was surprised Pearl used Cardwell and Stretch as a fit for other bigs that are interested coming to AU...

...That's not my idea of a core nucleus to build for next year.

I agree. I think Cardwell could actually be a quality starter even if he is a clear drop-off from Kessler. Not sure I'm sold on Stretch getting the remaining minutes. That was our center rotation last year with a little JT Thor mixed in and it didn't fare very well. But a couple years can be a big difference.

JayWill can play the 5 in 2-3 minutes increments. Plus that could get Yohan and him on the court at the same time.

I agree with this. Kessler gets all the attention, but Cardwell was still one of the top shot blockers in the SEC. He has soft hands so he's good at catching lobs/passes off of drives. He doesn't have much offensive game other than that, but we didn't get much more offensive production from Kessler anyway.

Biggest issue for Cardwell would be fouls imo. Because he's such an emotional player and plays with so much energy.. He would end up in foul trouble in most games imo, which is why having a quality back up is important.

We had a game this year, I don't remember which, and Kessler and Cardwell we're both in foul trouble. I figured Bruce would put Strech in and try to buy some minutes... Nope. If Stretch didn't make it into that game then its clear the staff doesn't actually trust him in games. Same for Moore, With Devan and Flan playing as bad as they we're.. for Moore to still not get minutes tells you the coaches don't think he's good enough.

Good lord, I hope not. That’s very weak.

It’s imperative Auburn lands another big and then a scorer as a 2 or 3.

They were completely useless. That isn’t solid. Even Lior could’ve brought more to the team than them.

JGT says chances with Broome is trending up. So that’s good.

That’s who we need.

Broome as the 5, Traore at the 4, Westry at the 3, KD at the 2 and Wen/Zep at the 1.

That will be the lineup by the end of the season. Jaylin will be surpassed, as will Flan.

Fap!

I’m not sure about Westry though. He doesn’t appear to be a great shooter out the gate. Hopefully he and Flanigan can share minutes and Bruce can keep him happy.

With our problems w small guards who down the strength was our major weakness bc of a lack of outside shooting well from the.

I hope Pearl brings in a better shooting guard. relying on our current backcourt to be bettter is stretch IMO.

Jared Harper scored 8 points in 5 minutes for the Pelicans last night. Hopefully he sticks there for the remainder.
