It was great to see both those guys in the backfield at times on Saturday night. Reminded me of Gorgeous Al Borges back in the Caddy and Ronnie days, which is probably why we're doing it now. They are a formidable duo back there.
I think this is the recipe vs WKU, and if we're gonna have any shot at playing Bama close. We scheme some wrinkles with those guys to confuse the defense. Trouble is Ashford is gonna have to step up. His passing game is terrible but maybe we can work in some read option stuff to keep them honest.

There were several formations with Alston, Bigsby, and Hunter in at the same time. Was great to see some new things with the offense, and have Bigsby and Hunter with over 100 Yards Rushing with A&M stacking the box.

I've been very happy with Friend. We still have issues closing out drives and obviously are outgunned in several areas, but he calls plays to our strengths rather than trying to overlook our weaknesses like Kiesau did.

They’re still using the same passing scheme as the Boise boys. That needs to change also. More quick hitters, slants, crossing routes, etc. The WRs are not getting open fast enough, and this Oline makes QBs gun shy. Just ask that guy that’s now at Oregon.

Both of them had identical rushing yards Saturday, I think it was 121 without looking it up. That needs to happen way more than it has.

This is not the reason for Ashford's issues at all. The kid just doesn't have the accuracy or touch to be anything but a run only QB.

Cowboy is a man.

Tank is a man.

Yards after contact is impressive.

Not sure why this got downvoted. Ashford can't hit a wide open wheel route. Trying to fit quick hitting routes into coverage gaps he's going to end up getting picked, throw the ball behind receivers, sail it, etc...

What we REALLY need is for other team's safeties to respect the play action pass with stuff over the top... so they stop crowding the LOS. There are two issues here:
(1) Our OLine is so bad it's tough for us to hold coverage long enough for play action to develop
(2) Ashford's deep ball is also wonky... against A&M there's a deep ball that sticks out in my mind that looked like a punt it had so much hangtime

Just shows how terrible Hars and Kiesau were. It is simple really, get you best players on the field as much as possible.

In all fairness, Ashford wasn't supposed to be the starter this year. 3rd string behind Calzada and Finley. Jason Campbell wasn't very good until his senior year. Nick Marshall wasn't even a QB at UGA. Point is, Ashford is a gifted athlete, his coaching has been really bad, and he needs to grow up.

Because JVille refuses to entertain any possibility that he was wrong about a QB.

Honestly I think that is his most glaring weakness and I’m not sure how you fix that. He’s very emotional and that just doesn’t work running an offense. Maybe that’s a lack of maturity or maybe just a temperament not suited for the QB position. Either way, unless he’s scrambling on a broken play, he’s terrible.

JC's stats:
2001 89-142 (62.7%) 1117 yds 7.9 ypa 4 TDs 4 INTs 132.4 Rate
2002 94-149 (63.1%) 1215 yds 8.2 ypa 11 TDs 5 INTs 149.2 Rate
2003 181-293 (61.8%) 2267 yds 7.7 ypa 10 TDs 8 INTs 132.6 Rate

Ashford's stats:
2022 104-208 (50.0%) 1434 yds 6.9 ypa 6 TDs 7 INTs 110.7 Rate

If Ashford performed at JC's FR level we'd probably be 8-2 right now

I wasn't implying that JC was as bad as Ashford, just pointing out that quality coaching can make a huge difference. Does JC get drafted in the 1st round with the stats you provided? Ashford needs a competent OC and QB coach. Not some dude that had to be promoted up from analyst because Harsin couldn't get anyone else to take the job.

I was talking to my friend during the game saying the same thing. He needs to settle down and not get so emotional. I know that’s easier said than done and I do like the passion but he reacts poorly too often. His talent should be used elsewhere next year. If we could make teams even remotely respect the play action tank and hunter could really put on a show.

I'd love to see him running the read-option with Tank or Cowboy.

Do you trust him to make the correct read even 75% of the time? I'm not sure I do.

I see you’re still crying over Finley. How exactly was I wrong? I said Ashford would take the QB1 spot after the season started. Sounds 100% correct to me.
