I think Kiffin could win more than Gus. He also could burn our program to the ground

But we can all agree that it would be entertaining as hell

Do you feel comfortable he could do that without running it in the ground or getting us in Ole Miss type trouble?

I think so. He appeals to the young guys, is exciting, and honestly, I don't think there would be any reason to operate above the rules.

The guy ate a huge supply of humble pie over the past 4-5 years and matured in my opinion, all while keeping that confident nature. His dream job came and went, and he would be hungry as frick to top Saban.

Not true. If we won that game, nothing would be any different. That game is absolutely meaningless in the end

I don't understand that comment over and over again. What program has he burned to the ground? UT was already in the shitter, he loaded them up with blue chips before he left. USC had just started sanctions when he took the job and was down 30 scholarships.

I mean more in terms of Kiffin could be a bad coach and install a bad culture.

I'm pro Kiffin if we lose Gus. Just saying he definitely is high risk high reward

I'm for keeping Gus but he wants Saban money and he's no where near that caliber of a coach, if he was I'd say pay him but he's not.

Arkansas wants to give him Saban money & so if we want to keep him we have to do somewhere in the same neighborhood. We aren't having these talks if Arkansas doesn't come calling with this insane offer

Hey, go post a thread about how Gus is leaving on the rant so the opposite thing happens. Since that seems to be what happens when you post.

All I am saying, AU has the resources and talent pool to be just fine. There is no reason for AU to allow him to exploit the university because he wants to go back to Arkansas and his ego wants us to stroke it for him.

yea, I agree and I am not even saying we should give him more money. My point is more of what would we be leaving out if we did not hire him. We are still going to be paying some coach a shite ton of money and we would be starting over.

But once again, would you expect Gus to just turn down 50 mil and not try and get a counter from Auburn

let's please stop this narrative. saban is making $11.1 M. He is a big reason coaches salaries are skyrocketing. I don't blame him for getting all he can. I don't blame any person for getting paid what somebody will pay them.

I'm not & agree with your points, I was just responding to other poster saying Malzahn was asking for "Saban money". It's Arkansas wanting to pay him somewhere around $7 million which is why this has become a thing & not because Gus out of nowhere told our AU admin he wants that much money

Of course not, he'd be dumb not to. I have thought all along he would go to Arkansas if AU lost the SEC. He knows there is a good thing at AU right now and wants the money along with the situation. His ego won't allow him to stay at AU if we don't offer the same money, and I wholeheartedly don't think AU should.

With Mullen getting 6 and Jimbo 7.5, of course Gus will ask for a raise. I'd prefer it be incentive laden, with a small buyout. However I don't want to wade into those dark coaching search waters that UT just drowned in

That's what I'd say if I didn't have a good comeback, too. Except I wouldn't because it's stupid.

Damn. Is Lanier the last sane one on this board?

The two home games at the end of year are worth the raise. Plus, it’s none of your dollars. The games are already $$$. You think if Gus doesn’t get a raise your going to get some money off on your tickets ...haha

Until the East gets better he’s going to have to beat UGa and UA twice to win a title. Nobody else in the SEc have any sniffed beating Saban

How about if we had actually played football through the 2nd-4th quarters against LSU *and* managed to score 2 TDs and a FG (or 1 TD and 3 FGs) against Clemson instead of constantly laying eggs on offense for the entire game?

That would have put us 12-0 going into the SECCG. Who would the committee have picked? The 12-1 team that just lost the SECCG? Or 11-1 Bama who lost to the 12-1 team?

Maybe, one day, we can expect $7M Gus to have the offense ready to go for Game 1 instead of Game 5. That would be nice.
