This is an interesting cycle because you have some big name coaches out there (Stoops & Meyer) who want back in and right now AU is the most attractive job outside of USC.

"When you get fired you're damaged goods. He's getting fired at Auburn if he doesn't leave. May not be this year, but it's coming"

If Malzahn leaves after December his buyout drops from 7 to 5 Million

"A lot of it depends on Arkansas and how seriously Malzahn wants to pursue the job. It's probably best for everyone if he goes home"

I don't think Ron knows much more than any of us but he brought up some good points. This year seems to be the perfect storm with Stoops and Urban looming out there.

A wrench in our plans would be if ND fires Brian Kelly.

I don't think FSU is as attractive as AU and the SEC. Although with Dabo moving to Ttown in a few years FSU could be in a could spot to start a run in the ACC.

Was referring to Urban to ND if Kelly gets fired

This thread has been made several times now. We're not going to uncover any new ground here.

He's not actually saying anything here. Most coaching tenures end with the coach being fired.

This is a non-factor. If Gus wants to go and Auburn wants to turn the page then they'll eliminate this barrier.

Both were available last year.

Not happening

Coaches aren't afforded years to win your conference anymore. Nobody is taking FSU with eyes on winning the conference if Dabo leaves.

The USC job has really lost it's shine and college football on the west coast just isn't what it used to be in the 2000s. LA in general just isn't interested in football anymore. They barely support the Rams and they want the Chargers to leave.

USC's alumni base had changed drastically in the last 10 years due to their online degree programs. I have friends that have masters degrees from USC that have never been to California

The only takeaways I see -

1) Gus may want a soft landing because he seems unlikely to turn the corner at Auburn. Everyone knows that, nothing insightful there.

2) Auburn may be the most desirable job this year if it opens, which may not always be the case. Nothing novel here, but it is a fair point from our perspective. Still, I don't think anyone feels there are a bunch of can't-miss candidates, so being the #1 job may not mean much.

Ron Sanders owns/founded Auburn Undercover (the 247 site). He spent some time with southern miss as their football recruiting director and has had different roles with other universities in recruiting and operations, including Auburn, LSU, and some others maybe. That was years ago but he’s thought to be pretty informed about the program

Yeah. And we all die some day.

Oh, so he doesn't know anything. Got it.

Ron makes his money by generating clicks on a website...writing an article giving AU fans Gus might be gone is simply a good business decision and it doesn't matter if he has no information or any perspective.

Insider or not, the point stands. We all know it's happening and this seems like a good year with Bob and Urban wanting back in. That's all Ron is saying.

Better for Malzahn to take the Arkansas job now rather than be fired next year and take Arkansas State job.

With AU losing their O and D lines Malzahn is looking at 8 wins next year whether he is at Auburn or Arkansas.

Scratch that. Arkansas schedule is brutal next year

Urban Meyer seems like a very bad choice for any elite college football team - sure he is definitely a top 2-3 coach in college football but he would probably only stay a few years before he retires due to some help issue like he did at Florida and Ohio State.

Excellent intel, Ron.

Some of these guys take the popular opinion of message boards, write a half-arse article, and then the same posters make a thread about it.

Not saying you’re talking about Ron, but it wasn’t even an article. Just a comment in a thread asking his opinion.

Ron typically just links articles from around the web to the board

Totally.

"May not be this year, but it's coming" = 2020, 2021, 2022, etc....

Yeah like you said earlier ITT, this subject has been beaten to death, still some big games ahead Gus and AU, and plenty of games left for the Top 4 to be shaken up.

Saying this before the UGA/Bama game just discredits anyone saying it.

It’s a possibility. I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. So reporting that like it’s insider information looks bad.

You can’t say anything definitive at this point because if he beats UGA/Bama and is 10-2 I have a really hard time believing we fire him
