Trooper Taylor had them do two things that were not so usual. They played catch with bricks to teach soft hands and worked out rebounding with some of the BB team to win the 50/50 balls.

After last night's festival of butter fingers perhaps practicing with greased balls would help.

Or Antonio Brown's juggling three footballs.

Or catching balls with one hand tied down.

Something needs to be done.

Hugh has the fricking jugs machine out during pregame warmups… at some point it’s not about the coaching, it’s about the individual

WR is a pretty inherent position and there are only so many skills/routes to master, so they are pretty polished by the time they get to campus and WR coaches are more like Rah-Rah encouraging pace guys. WRs either got the talent, or they don't as well.

Yeah at the college level unless a player is moving from
High school QB to WR most come in knowing fundamentals. Granted every coach has a few different drills they do. We just have very mid receivers. Outside of not picking up the offense quick enough I think I’ve been most disappointed in their blocking. It’s been terrible as a group. And that’s an effort want to thing.

They just aren't SEC caliber. Hard to convince a top notch group of receivers to transfer in without a top notch OL and QB to entice them.
CHF is doing what he can with what he has this year.
Next year and the next should be much improved.
Damn potato famine has hurt us more than most people realize.

I think Mike Leach used to have his receivers catch tennis balls fired from a machine (with two hands).

LSU 2019 Drills and testing

Why isn't this at least the minimum amount of effort we expect from our WR coach and receivers at Auburn?

I am guessing every football factory has a lot of that going on. If we don't have maximum reps session in the summer then that's our first problem. Trooper Taylor wouldnt have that!

You can buy some great talent in the transfer portal, but there's a lot more guys who weren't getting the playing time they wanted at some middling school. Necessity forced us to stock up on the latter and they look the part.

This. These stories come out when someone has a particularly good receiving corps. Some special "unconventional method" that was used.

"Catch a crazy number of footballs that you have to find in-flight" is part of every team's method. You can only improve catching, ball tracking, and route adjustment to a point. To some extent the limit on those is god-given.

Route running, reading coverage, being assignment sound, blocking, and knowing all 3-4 WR positions on the other hand.... that stuff is absolutely learned.

Although this has absolutely nothing to do with regards to improving Auburn’s butter-fingered receiver corps…

…the “silver-lining” is that I’m at least reminded of a classic joke that could at least possibly raise everyone’s spirits with a light hearted chuckle?…if only momentarily?

There’s a Blonde & a Brunette in an elevator.

A man walks in the elevator and he has a severe case of dandruff.

The Brunette says to the Blonde, “This guy has a ton of dandruff, we should give him some head and shoulders".

The blonde replies back saying " How do we give shoulders?”

When the crew at SEC Shorts calls out your team’s receivers specifically for dropping the ball, that has to leave a mark.

Where is the personal pride?

Just asking

There was actually a pipeline of guys at Auburn who all caught rabbits in south Florida. Forget the town but it's a right of passage there.... like "you're not fast until you catch a rabbit bare handed".
