It's not the size of the check.

It's what's in the 'fine print'.

Not that it means much, but B.Matthews put out his thoughts on depth charts going into spring, with the new additions:

Defense

Offense

Definitely digging the WR room how he has it and that was my initial thought as well. I didn't think Fields and Thompson would be in the same spot, but we will see. Gives us a lot of flexibility for size vs speed in formations there.

OL I think Carter ends up taking over a guard spot.

Tulane Running Back Makhi Hughes is in the portal now. 2,779 yards last two years. Wasn't he Offord's half brother or something?

Still is...

Never said he was getting millions. I said big check. 25-50k? Maybe a little more or little less. I can almost assure you he's getting a good amount because it's a power five program. Air Noland and several others have No passes attempted and got paid. Don't know what your life is like, but even 5 figures is good cash for most.

Air Noland is a redshirt freshman from a playoff team that had a star QB as its starter. He was also a considerably better HS recruit than Holden Geriner. These players are incomparable. Geriner has been in college for 3 years and has made zero progress in some of the worst QB rooms at Auburn. In fact, he was immediately passed over by a younger low 3-star HS QB (Hank Brown). Again, Geriner has no value and his NIL standing is negligible. He has basically no P4 teams that will be interested in him as their starting QB. If he goes to Cal, it is because that is the best football program available to him that is willing to potentially let him play. You need to realize that his alternatives are to transfer to a place like Georgia State.

And c'mon lol, the original term you used was "last big check he will see in his life". Your initial post is describing him getting what is essentially life-changing money. Now you are talking $25-50K lol? $25K will buy him like a base-level Honda Civic in 2025 lol. I certainly hope for his sake that this isn't the peak of his financial earnings.

Dude he already has something that can make him that much next year. He already has his AU degree so he could go out and start more than 25-50k depending upon what he has a degree in. He like others just wants to play and you can't blame him. I hope he goes on and has success and appreciate his time at AU & hope he has good memories as an alum and sends his future kids there.

The overlord Googles lol said the average amount for a power 5 transfer is anywhere from 10-50k I know most of us view Holden as a bust or bum not worth the investment but it's not what you're worth it's what you negotiate. The Market is 10-50k so I'm guessing unless he's an idiot, he can negotiate something in that range which most of us will take to do something we love right? Let's say he's Worth little to nothing because he couldn't win the Auburn job or even be a backup, shouldn't that make him NOT go to a state that'll take his cash? That was my original point dude.

Did we get the wrong OU QB from the portal? watching the Freshman play and he is a decent runner. He has a quick throw. But still needs work.

Remember the Auburn live bros mentioned dudes getting 5k for visiting. Holden was an under armour All American who sucked for US but their are coaches who believe he'll develop.

I disagree with the term that he "Sucked" for us. He spent a year under Harsin which he fit the offense being run. He just isn't a fit for Hugh's game. He can sling it. He just needs to go where he fits. According to 24/7 he is ranked below Hank Brown on their portal page. Not by much. So if I gave the perception that I didn't like him or thought he "sucked" that wasn't in my mind when writing this stuff. I appreciate everyone who has put on that uni for my alma matter. I didn't have the talent to make a Pat Dye team when I was there. I just was making the comment that it isn't about money for him transferring as he already has his degree which will bring in more a year than he would probably get.

Fair enough. "Sucked" is a bit harsh

He will go somewhere he can play, make a little money, and get a graduate degree. If that's the worst case, he's fine

They are about to lose to Navy. I don't know how Arnold will work out, but he's for sure better than Hawkins.

Mostly likely a back up plan since we missed on two other guys, but that's fine because we're just looking for some depth anyway.

Not surprised by Jackson. Its his last year and he probably wants to play and he was like 6th or 7th at best on the depth chart.
