Its really not hard to understand if you put yourself in the place of the player. There is absolutely no reason to stay at Auburn and no penalty to leave. Unless you just fell in love with the place it was a easy decision to transfer out.

If you are not emotionally connected, you could see this was going to happen

I’m hearing a lot of chatter, from different places, that Deuce is joining Lane at LSU. Lane has sold him on the idea that he’ll have every opportunity to start and get paid like a starter

Cool. I hope it doesn’t work out for him.

But it probably will.

Something we all need to understand is that Auburn is damaged goods right now and we need Golesh to figure out how to fix it. That might mean sending away high caliber players who will dominate at other programs. It hurts because they sucked here but will thrive elsewhere.

That doesn’t mean we should have kept them. Whatever has been wrong with Auburn became wrong with those players.

And for that, you let them go.

We have had hundreds of players transfer out, only 1 went up in program and got better....Nix. I will take my chances these already wealthy, overpaid players who won 9 games in 2 years while being lazy and entitled (thanks Hugh) will be invisible at their next stop

Keionte Scott was a Thorpe Finalist and 2nd team all American at Miami this year.

But the ones that perform at a high level at their next stop are few.

I think we will be happily surprised with what he does next year. Especially if they get a decent line. I think we will have a bunch of portal & we will have fans complain about the group of 5 folks coming in but there are players out there for this system...we should be rolling by year 2.

I think there is a Rot in the culture at AU right now and it is being cleaned out.

On Deuce

Same agent as Cam Coleman. (Dude is a snake)

Deuce wasn’t convinced we wouldn’t just portal over him next year too.
We offered 2 mill for him to sit and learn the offense behind Byrum Brown and to be the starter in 27.

Imo, it’s between Boston College, Ole Miss, and LSU. I tend to lean BC.

2 million to a backup QB to sit that is pure potential/ no substance while we penny pinch on OL and DL

And we are supposed to pretend that strategy is sound

Yeah offering 2 million to Deuce is the most concerning thing I've heard about this staff to date. By quite a bit. If they are god-like at QB evals that is the only way I could justify that stance.

Should offer Duece a 2 year 4M deal. 1 Million year 1 with 500K paid through out CY 26 and the final 500K paid out after the portal window closes in 27. The 3M payment right before the 2027 season starts to guarantee he doesn’t portal out.

This is all assuming he is the guy and will be good which it looks like AG believes.

ETA: in the NFL the starting QB makes about 20% of the total cap. So if our cap is 30 then our starter QB is at 6M. Not saying we should do that at all or lean into the NFL model but that is what the agents are telling their players.

Makes sense on the QB market. I don't think Deuce is all that but maybe some do.

And when I say that, I have no idea about Deuce. He could be the next Cam Newton or he could be the next Tyrik Rollison. I have absolutely no idea, the Mercer game doesn't do anything for me personally.

Yeah I have no idea about Deuce either and you’re right about the Mercer game but it was fun to watch.

But if AG believes he’s worth it then I guess we gotta trust him.

it’s a moot point now.

then we should all be relieved he turned it down

i assume he’s gonna take less money to be the starter somewhere, unless some staff out there thinks his performance against Mercer is enough evidence he’s worth more than 2 mil

Didn't he have a pitstop in Houston prior to the UM tenure?

Helluva gig. Doubt he gets much more going to any of these other schools.

I don't hate this strategy honestly. The problem is that you pay him 2 mil to sit but no guarantee he will be here after the next portal. I think he could be that good to invest in him but he has to have people blocking competently in front of him.

At the end of the day, you have to score points to win games. We proved that with Kentucky this year. If you score 3, you will lose every game. The days of shutouts are done and they are far and few between, even against smaller schools.

I wouldn't be shocked, if we get Brown, that we take another young quarterback that fits the physical mold that Golesh wants in the portal to take that backup role they wanted for Deuce.

I don't think we will replace Coleman for talent level but I think we will get just as much production out of whoever we bring in as we would Coleman.

The biggest thing is for us to have a winning season next year. This is much easier said than done though as our schedule might be the toughest schedule, on paper, in the history of football. top three teams in the SEC (all in playoffs), 5th in the SEC (tied), and a team that will be in much better shape next year in LSU. A winning season will be a great start for Golesh in my eyes.

Though I tend to agree with you on this, it is a bad situation for a new coaching staff to walk in on. Its a damned if you do, damned if you dont deal. Glad I am not the one trying to figure out what to do about all this mess

I think the mantra that we are “penny pinching” is so far unfounded until we see what we bring in from the portal. Just because we aren’t giving a kid what he thinks he is worth, does not mean we are penny pinching.

As far as Deuce getting that amount, you are also to a degree trying to lockup a future after next year to sell to future recruits as well. Having a QB locked down to sell to any offensive players is a big deal.

Right? Like if you think you'll be portaled over the next year after learning and developing then you just don't think teams will treat you as a starter most anywhere...
