Deuce Knight money better spend on the O-line.

Totally agree with you. The smart play for him is to stay here, learn from BB and AG, and become a beast next year.

The smart move for Deuce is to transfer to a good lower tier school and start building a resume as a starter. If he is truly as good as you all think he is, then he will dominate and immediately become a a highly coveted target for a CFP contender next season. Teams like Indiana, Miami, etc. are going to likely go with another transfer portal QB in the next cycle.

Sticking around at Auburn as the backup is not as foolproof as you all think it is. For one: what if Golesh isn't impressed by him in practice and chooses to go back into the Portal to recruit over him? Second scenario: Brown balls out next season and Golesh's offense does really well, and now all of a sudden there are experienced elite starters from the Portal interested in stepping in at Auburn to replace Brown. Golesh now runs into the scenario where he needs to decide whether to go with a proven good to great starter with existing experience, or blindly hand the reigns over to Deuce Knight who still would only have some mop-up experience under his belt.

In the current landscape, young QB's at "blue blood programs" who have nothing but a HS recruiting resume are going to be under constant threat by more experienced, comparably talented multi-year starters who are entering the Portal each year and provide a considerably more known quality. You are already seeing this happen around the country. For example, Tennessee has signed multiple HS QB's over the past few years and yet they keep recruiting over them in the Portal. The reality is that coaches need to win, and that means that just handing over your starting QB job to an unproven "4/5-star HS QB" is going to become less prevalent than it previously was when you now have the option to just bring in some multi-year starter SR from some other program.

Even if Deuce Knight had stayed here, the idea that he would just be handed the job in 2027 is nonsense. There is nothing preventing Golesh from recruiting next year's Sam Leavitt or equivalent QB over Knight.

Everything you said is correct for today's college football world, but I sure miss the days of grooming a player for a couple of years.

I think deuce will be good but I can’t seen paying the $1.5m it would take just for the privilege of recruiting him again in a year.

OM went from dealing with Kiffins trolling to having to babysit Deuces social media. They must be a glutton for punishment

On a positive note, Auburn quit developing players 20 years ago. That's one plus of us using the portal to bring in already developed talent

These coaches always think they can cheap out on o and dline and spot diamonds in the rough so we never spend on the line.

I think we paid handsomely for Percy Lewis 2 yrs ago and Chaplain last year and he was the highest rated player in the portal at his position.

I think evaluation for the system we’re running is key here. And because of Indiana success, I think that luring older lineman is tough to do without a proven product. We have sucked for a long, long time.
