My assumption is that they will do a commitment announcement this weekend during everyone’s visit.

Just got a Fong CB for him as well.

Fun fact: Jeremiah Koger played at the same HS in Baltimore as Woodby, Deas and whoever else it was that we signed from there (St. Frances Academy).

This is the correct answer. Instead, we’re going to replace Deuce with a bum probably. Pray for Brown’s health, gentlemen.

How are you this fricked up so early in the day?

Knight barely has any collegiate stats and Brown’s stats are amazing. Deuce is the bum for not wanting to compete.

We couldn't have both. You know this. We chose Brown.... My frustration is that we couldn't (let or convince) Duece to compete. For the record I didn't see him beating the guy who was in this system for 3 years.

Hot take, and I wish he'd stayed on the off chance I'm wrong and because I love mobile QBs, but Deuce will not be a high level QB in college football and not worth paying the money it would take to keep him as a backup. Focus all efforts on the OL.

USF backup QB Locklan Hewlett entered the portal. JLee put in a prediction for him to AU

How many times does this need to be explained? Byrum Brown is not transferring anywhere under the pretense that he has to "compete" for the job. He is one of the 5 highest rated QB's in the portal, which means that he has sufficient power to find a guarantee from a top program. It is not feasible to recruit a player of this caliber (who only has 1 more year of eligibility) under the pretense that he may not even be the starter.

Furthermore, it doesn't even make sense from a financial perspective for Auburn, and I will explain why. I have no idea what Brown's price tag will be, but lets pretend we need to pay $3M to sign him. So you sign him and retain Deuce, and by some fluke occurrence Deuce beats him out for the starters job. You now have the most expensive backup QB in the country, contributing nothing. If Auburn's total payroll for next season is ~$30M, that means that 10% of your money is sitting on the bench. THIS IS BAD.

You all need to start thinking from the perspective of roster optimization, which will be entirety tied to payroll optimization. Spending $12M on wide receivers sounds nice, but it is moronic if your payroll is $30M. Even if you got the 4 best WR's in the country for that amount, it is still a terrible idea because there is only one football, and therefore you can not possibly expect to extract $12M of value from those 4 receivers because there are not enough pass attempts in a game to do so.

The same logic applies to the QB room. Gone are the days where you can expect to have a star JR or SR starter, a 5-star Sophomore backing him up, and then a 5-star Freshman you just signed. And they are all "competing" or "waiting their turn" or whatever other nonsense you want to come up with. It wont work because you cant invest that much money into players who aren't actually playing. At best you can have 1 young "top recruit" that you hope will take over for our upperclassman starter, but even then that kid is waiting 1-2 years max before you have to start him or lose him. If he is a 5-star, you basically have 1 year of him as the backup. I got into a huge argument with a few of you ~1.5 years ago on this topic, and of course as usual I have proven to be right. Arch Manning is basically the only 5-star HS QB from the ~2023-2025 classes who is still with his original school. The others all transferred out. And Manning is a highly unique case who only waited as long as he did because he: already comes from a wealthy family, and has an extremely famous football last name with huge media connections that allowed him to sign actual lucrative NIL marketing deals to appear in national commercials even before he established himself as a player. This wont apply to other 5-star QB's, therefore they will NOT behave like him.

Its possible. However, its likely that bum is way more proven and cheaper than DK. Ive been wrong before but if DK doesnt have a deuce career, he will be the first QB brought here from hs in close to 20 years that comes close to living up to the hype. We lost the 3rd sting QB from the worst offense in the conference. The NIL was being distributed by popularity and not production by HF.Gives me hope we see a gritty Auburn squad again.Who knows, we might even see an accurate deep ball that doesnt end with a drop next year. A man can dream right???

Has everyone backed away from the ledge today? If this team makes the playoffs I want a free premium membership for calling it.

Not thrilled about it but don't hate it for a backup quarterback for now. He has been in with Golesh for a year, his dad is apparently a decent qb trainer himself so the kid is probably smart and has the head for it but may lack the measurable and physical talents of other quarterbacks. I would think it would be a fine get for depth.

Our offense is going to be USF North next year. I’m not saying if that’s good or bad. Doesn’t take much to get better than scumbag Freeze.

I think this bodes well with BB coming. Two QB's that know the system to help the offense.
