Now that the refs call “lineman downfield” a lot; is this really the best deployment of passing game?

Defensive coaches are catching up as well.
It's a simple way to take advantage of a few things if your QB can do it and has durability:

(1) Often gets QB out of the pocket which helps multiple ways... no intentional grounding, easier on the OLine
(2) Causes issues in man coverage because they are turned away from the ball
(3) Forces defense to use more spies because of the run threat
(4) Can slow down the pass rush because a mobile QB will take off if you lose gap/lane control
(5) Put defenders on an island - do I cover my guy or go help stop the running QB?

Have to coach up the line on not going downfield on RPO plays - just get what you can.

Thanks for laying out the RPO case.

I guess throwing a quick slant to a big bodied WR with great hands if he wins the one on one works well.

It probably requires quick decision making and the WR winning and the QB getting the ball in a good location.

BUT, IF NOT, things can melt.

I guess when you have better players, most things work better.

So Geriner should transfer to a more pro style offense?
Who are the best non-RPO teams?

Petrino at Arkansas could probably get Geriner on the field.

Cam Coleman did just that in the state championship last night. It was beautiful

That was a lot of the problem this year.

I think he’d be a lot better in a pro style.

Is Holden in the portal yet?

Is Downtown Heisman Hank Brown an RPO or a Pro style when he paints pictures with his balls?

No one thought Thorne was an RPO guy

No. He’s a redshirt freshman, so he has plenty of eligibility to not be in a rush to transfer. If he chooses to.

Hank ran an offense close to Freeze’s in high school.

Would be huge. Scott could really shoot up boards with a good year if he stays healthy.

I hope Kaufman comes back too. REcruiting our secondary on the roster is vital

Scott, Rodgers, Mcleod and Assante and the 4 defensive players we need to convince to come back.

I think Brown and Carson Beck are actually pretty similar in play style. Decently mobile but not true dual threat guys. Not your prototypical pocket passer statue either. Brown should definitely be good in the rpo offense though. Very used to running it.

Agreed. Seems like McCleod (isn’t he the one from Vandy?) has been talking us up to vandy transfers. Would lead me to believe there is a good chance he returns. Rodger’s and Asante, no telling. See what kind of read they get on the nfl.

I didn’t think he still had time left. Hope he does. Hopefully we get him playing like he did for the first half of the season, for all of it. He kind of disappeared in the second half of the season, though I’m sure injuries played a part in that.

McAllister was from Vandy. McLeod was from App St.
