I've listened to Hugh Freeze talk each week about game planning and every week he seems to indicated that he is not happy with it. Do you think Phillip Montgomery is our OC next year?

He’s gonna have to find an ace recruiter as an OC and he’ll start calling the plays.

I think he’s overwhelmed (wahhh millionaire coach is overwhelmed), but it’s true.

He only has so much time in the day and I don’t think he’s too fond of what we have going on offense but knows recruiting is what gets him out of this the quickest so he thought Montgomery would be a serviceable option until we can get talented enough where he can have total control over the offense.

I think there will be a mutual parting of the ways in my opinion. Need a young up and comer coordinator and Freeze be the true OC. I also wonder if Thornton is calling blocking scheme like Freeze wants. Not saying Thornton will leave but think Freeze wants to mold him more toward his philosophy.

Would this even come up if we has a good QB right now with a decent O line?

I’m hoping he can eventually recruit Fatt Luke into coming out of retirement.

I think it would. It seems that Hugh is frustrated because Montgomery isn't tailoring the offense to the few strengths that we have such as faster temp and more RPO. Our offense was never going to be explosive this year but I think everyone expected more, especially from the run game. No, we don't have a lot of SEC talent but there are still less talented teams in the SEC that are scoring a lot more points than us.

Who?

I cant think of many teams less talented than us on the offensive side of the ball. We might be ranked 18th in the country in talent but a lot of that comes from the defensive side.

I do not think Montgomery will be our OC next year. I also think Freeze's decision to not call plays this year was strategic after he saw our talent level.

We're 3rd in the conference in rushing YPG in spite of having no passing threat... this is a passing game issue.

I can't think of one honestly... and... I couldn't help myself, just double checked.

Vandy has more ppg than us (we are last) so I will circle that one and say that I agree. As for the other lower half SEC offenses in ppg.

Alabama - would take QB or WR
Arkansas - would take QB and WR1
Florida - would take QB and WR1/WR2
USCe - would take QB, WR1, and TE

Montgomery hasn't out foxed anyone. LSU looked like they knew what he was going to run before he did.

This offense looks to me like the Freeze/Ole Miss offense with an inadequate QB and WR's. The design of the plays themselves often suck, but the real problem is that this offense these guys are trying to run is dependent on a good QB that can get the ball out and on target quickly, and WR's who can make that play. We have neither.

The strongest position on the offense is the RB's. The next strongest position is the TE's. We do not play to this strength at all.

The OL is serviceable, but average. They aren't going to dominate any games, but they are going to be adequate if we use them properly.

However, the WR's and the QB's are simply weak. We are weak and have few options a those positions.

In light of this, putting three, four, and five WR's on the field does not make any sense at all. These players needed to be on a run first offense, and he threat of the run should be used to get pass catchers open.

The fact that we are seven games into the season and still trying to run an offense that we can't execute is very telling about this staff. There will absolutely be turnover.

That transfer portal that people keep looking for our next QB in is available to our RB's. Some have to be wondering if their draft status wouldn't be better elsewhere at this point.

ON WHETHER HE WANTS TO RUN MORE TEMPO

"I wouldn't be sitting here today if it wasn't for tempo offense and RPO. It's a very uncomfortable feeling for me not to be in that world. We are very, very, very thin. You get in that kind of game with LSU and Ole Miss -- they want that kind of game. They thrive in that kind of game. It's not working right now. It's a struggle. If you say, 'Hey, let's just go fast with them.' Then you're asking defensive linemen to play 80 snaps a game. I'm not sure they're smart, either. We're still debating what's the right approach."

This is why we are not going fast.We not only don't have talent, we dont have backups for them.

There is no reason to be that incompetent on offense. The excuses are dumb. Coaches aren’t prepared. Got absolutely out coached by LSU. The defense got exposed but the endless onslaught because the offense looks like it’s trying not to score with play calling will wear u down. Freeze needs to coach the damn offense and get this other clown to do something else. Had a bye week and rolled that shite game plan out. Embarrassing. Too busy calling parents I guess. Better start calling the damn plays or shut up about it.

I thought this before the season started. Giving up play calling to a coordinator provides time and a fall guy. Same thing Gus did until he just seemed to give up all together.

0.

We literally looked so much better with Hugh calling the plays, I think Montgomery knows this too

Exactly. I don't like that we are already trying to dismiss coaches this early in his tenure.

Is it telling that you don't hear Montgomery on any media or see him in any media coming out of Auburn?
