but as for the rest of your post & the other post you look like a total dick & you are completely disrespecting everyone that has had to deal with this, dead & recovered alike. This is some serious arse shite man. Stop trying to fricking minimalize it.
I mean you’ve posted it on multiple public sports forums, you’re gonna get responses you don’t like, come on
Glad your mother is doing better. I’m pretty sure I had that shite last month. 102 fever for a day or two, bronchitis (which I never get), no other symptoms. Tested negative for the flu, and was fine a couple days later. So long as you take care of your body you should be fine. Count me in the camp that this is overblown.

This is based on what, your guess?
Math and reason. The fatality rate with confirmed cases is like 1.5. 80% of cases are mild and up to 40% are asymptomatic. Meaning the number of actual cases far exceeds the number of confirmed cases Thus the actual fatality rate is easily less than half the fatality rate of the confirmed cases.
Here's a recent article on the topic I just found. Looks like I was off by .16%, my bad.
Even CNN acknowledging it
Not sure why this is even controversial.

I'm sorry if the facts offended you and yes a lot of people will be affected unfortunately. So there's no need to dramatize an already serious situation. That's why there's discord and people choosing sides to begin with. If people would just be honest it would be a lot less political bullshite, mistrust, and people digging in on whatever side of the fence they fall on.

Went from being off the board (March 1) to behind only cancer and heart disease (April 2) in leading cause of mortality in the US.
Went to a drive-through funeral today for one my my wife’s coworkers. She was in her early 50s and worked in admissions. She helped people check in and find where they needed to go. It sucked arse.
Wife couldn’t go because she’s at the hospital. They’re doing great still. We haven’t seen a true “peak“ and nearly everyone is avoiding contracting the disease on the floor now. They feel like they’ve got the process down but it’s exhausting.
They’ve had nearly every meal delivered by local restaurants. They’re well supplied and bracing for worse but yesterday was the first day they’ve thought they might avoid the NYC/ NOLA scenarios they’ve heard about from friends and read about in the news. Some of their staff have headed off to NYC (Weill Cornell) for 2 weeks.
She gets home in 2 hours. She’ll shower and go straight to bed. I’ll do her laundry and cook up dinner for tomorrow. She wakes up, takes her temperature, and gets ready for the day. We’ll stand in line for groceries tomorrow morning. We’re going to swing by her sister’s house and talk to her nieces and nephews through the fence. Hopefully her favorite food truck can deliver before she goes back to work at 8pm. If not, she’ll have this shitty stir fry I’m currently putting together.
If this is overblown, man, we just haven’t seen it. But i’m glad you have. I haven’t had a normal conversation with my wife in 3 weeks. She’s on auto pilot most of the time and I’m manning the house and drinking too much. Not sharing this for anyone to feel bad. We signed up for this and we’re here for it. But sometimes I think it’s helpful to have glimpse into someone’s day. It’s hard to imagine some of it. If you described this to me a few weeks ago I would have brushed it off too

You said " overall the fatality rate is .5 at the very most:"
That's a pretty big whiff

(and then)
As if there wasn't enough anti-matter reports on covid19, you doubled down on the moral blunder, by defending it for the third (or fourth) time.

NYC is hiring respiratory therapists right now. While they’re desperate, 6,000-8000 dollars a week.

This sounds like my life prior to this quarantine. A sprint for 5 days a week, sun up to sun down. I’ve actually enjoyed the break and gotten a ton of “to do” stuff knocked off the list the last couple weeks. Made me realize I need simplify life a bit.
I don’t deny the virus, it’s real, but I think the reaction is overblown. I am of the opinion it’s been here longer than a few weeks, and I don’t think it’ll ever go away. It’s too contagious and it’ll be something our immune systems adapt to, so long as you’re relatively healthy.
All the best to your better half btw

Do the math on .66% of 7.5 billion and imagine those people passing in a 2 month window of time. This has always been about the lack of herd immunity and the potential to overwhelm our health care systems ala Italy. The mortality rate rises when that happens. Italy is hovering in the 12% range. Now go back and do 12% of 7.5 billion.

That’s not really accurate to say. Italy has the second oldest population in the world. They’re also very close knit and an affectionate type of people. It’s clearly taking its toll on the elderly and those with underlying conditions. Terrible, but some perspective:
Italy’s death by age
Number of deaths
0-9 years 1
10-19 years 0
20-29 years 6
30-39 years 30
40-49 years 114
50-59 years 506
60-69 years 1,520
70-79 years 4,412
80-89 years 5,304
90 years and older 1,347

I didn't predict it would be 12% everywhere, but the fear of that possibility is driving the decisions. They have 124K infected and 15k dead. I do believe you can assume 300k infected but that's still 5% mortality. So do 5% of 7.5 billion and then imagine that number in a few months. I don't like what's going on...I don't see how we can leave the country shut down for much longer...but acting like the virus is no big deal seems obtuse. It's a big deal, but we are probably going to have to move on in spite of it.

If CNN is reporting .66 you can bet the actual number is lower than that.
My original response was not to E, who I have offered my best wishes to throughout. It was also made after E's mother was out of danger. It was to another poster claiming 99.5% of the cases were having negative outcomes. Which is the kind of fear mongering that has us in the mess we are in.

Based on what exactly? You continually come in here making claims with no factual basis or supporting data.

I provided a link that was very close to what I said, from a source known to exaggerate the other direction at that. Meanwhile we got people in here talking about 12% of 7.5 billion dying in two months going unchallenged. But yea I’m the one who is way off

Winner. The discussion belongs in the actual covid thread.
