Yeah that’s kind of what’s selling me. He seems to get it. But at the same time, sunbelt billy was a similar “calculated gamble” hire, if you will. So I have a hard time ignoring that until he proves otherwise. I think at this point, no one would blame us if we hired Sumrall and he ended up being a bust. He’s the hot name, much more than Billy was.

He's the Larry Coker of the NFL with public scandal and somehow 20 years later people still want him.

You'd think people learned their lesson about hiring shitbirds after the Hugh Freeze fiasco

Dan Lanning is set to make 11 million a year through 2030 so that’s a no.

I’m tired of the hit and miss bubble gum offense from Gus’ tree so NO to Drink. That offense is effective when they could go fast and the defense couldn’t substitute and had to stay in base defense because they didn’t have time to make checks, rules changes killed that offensive style.

Jimbo hell NO, this name shouldn’t even be getting discussed.

Clark Lea has to prove he can get it done without Pavia and the New Mexico St. boys before he’s a candidate.

JABA would be hiring Butch Jones from Arkansas St.

There is no “splash” hire available so burn it down, we are Tennessee before the Heupel hire.

Jimbo Fisher should not be allowed in Lee County. The rest of your list I think I could be happy with.

Reminder, as not everyone see all posts. The WEP candidates list is always my choice who I really want at 1. The other 4 are people that I have heard are being considered or are interesting, not necessarily people I want and not in any order.

Dan Lanning will remain number 1 until he comes out and says he is not taking the job. And even then, he may stay at 1 until an official coach is announced.

Surely that guy is sick of dreary PNW.

Saw on the rant, but based on our recent hiring history, shouldn't Blake Anderson be the leading candidate for the job?

I saw that too....

I will say I follow USM football as well. It is pretty impressive what Blake Anderson is doing at USM along with head coach Charles Huff.

I think Charles Huff is a hell of a coach and will have a big time job soon

The reason Blake Anderson makes sense:

Arkansas State Head Coaches:
2011 Hugh Freeze
2012 Gus Malzahn
2013 Bryan Harsin
2014 Blake Anderson

Joey McGuire, the head coach at Texas Tech, would be an interesting candidate.

Texas Tech is currently 5th in total offense and 10th in total defense, which is a great reflection of their head coach.

And he's only making $4.5 million this year, so we could offer him a substantial pay raise.

No - we're done with ex high school coaches, and he hit the lottery as far as Texas Tech opening up the check books, basically has unlimited funds so Ark is not a possibilty.

They were abysmal in defense last year. They brought in Shiel Wood as DC, he was at Houston last year and Tulane the year before that, following Fritz to Houston. Troy in 22 and Army for two years before that. He is actually a coordinator I find intriguing. He has had a run of basically being at a place one season which is interesting depending how you look at it, but each year I'd say he has upgraded where he went.

He has that defense playing great ball. Not advocating for him or anything, just a guy I thought about over the weekend watching their game.
