Not to Bitch About Officiating, but...

That SEC crew shouldn't officiate again. They are an embarrassment to the SEC.
How in the heck can you not count to 4? There is absolutely NO excuse that could be given to make a team punt on 3rd down. And then how many make up BS calls does it take to even that out? The entire rest of the game, those dipshits tried to right their wrong. I can only imagine the outrage if Auburn did pull off the W.
They need to stick to their day jobs and someone needs to steal their whistles.

Agree, supposedly there was a review and they still said 4Th down. It was a safety. It was not targeting. Can they call holding anymore? PI was inconsistent. But at the end of the day, we had too many blown coverages.

Noticed this as well. The full ball was not across the line. Oh well. We got plenty of breaks too. They were definitely garbage all around.

quote:I knew we were in for a long night during our first defensive series. Blatant holding was obvious to everyone but the guys who could do something about it. The rest of the game was just as pathetic. The egregious targeting call, skipping a down, ticky-tack PI calls only went one way. It was like a MLB ump changing the strike zone depending on which team was batting.

Yep, they seemed to help us more than them.
Including the non-grounding call on Bo, even though he clearly was within the hash marks and trying to throw it away.
And we have seen Bo enough to know, that is exactly what he was trying to do. :)

The officials were terrible for both teams -
The grounding call on their WB which wasn’t grounding. Them saying it was 4th down when it was 3rd down. The targeting call on us. The grounding no-call on Bo. Lots of really bad refereeing

I don't have time to check but I believe the ball only has to break the plane of the goal line not to be a safety.
We benefitted from the bad calls far more than PSU.

Nah the entire ball has to be across the line.
ETA: I. A10, after receiving the snap in his own end zone, is downed with the ball resting on his goal line, its forward point being in the field of play. RULING: Safety.

Pretty sure it just has to break the plane. That's at least what Herbie said I thought

That is not true. AA7 is correct. Entire ball must be across. If any part of the ball is on the goal line, going either way, the ball is in the endzone

Same thing happened in the safety against Oregon in 2010. Ball was halfway across. This one was close but it looked like a couple inches were still on the line.

Well then we get fricked on that

Think of it this way, the painted stripe goal line is pretty wide. Im guessing 4-6". The only thing that matter at all is the front part of the line facing the field. Anything after that is actually in the endzone.
If the ball is touching any part of that wide line, it is considered in the endzone. Just as if you were trying to score the other way

there is a pic floating around that shows the penn state guys knee down and the ball well away from the goal line. i think this hurt us bad and probably cost us the game. but the officials were really bad, period.

Yeah it’s just the same as if it was going the other direction. Any part of the ball in the end zone and the ball belongs to the end zone whether it’s a touchdown or safety

And then they spotted it about two feet forward.
I agree, while we got the benefit of the lion’s share of the crappy calls, it was just awful all around.

His initial progress the ball was well past the goal line. even though Auburn pushed him back he still gets his initial forward progress.

Pictures don't always tell the whole story. If anyone has an isolated video clip of that particular play I'd love to see it because it looked to me that his forward progress was around the 1 yard line.

I could not tell if he made it completely out of the end zone. It appeared he did. My statement is only to the rule.
