If Gus had kicked a field goal instead of going for it earlier in the game, people would bitch and say he’s not aggressive enough. The only thing I didn’t like was the play call.

Stidham threw two picks — that’s not on Gus

I can think of three balls our receivers dropped during key plays. Two were during our first possession — that’s not on Stidham

Our D line got no pressure on Burrows — not sure what the hell happened

Kim sucks and hopefully he will progress throughout the season or Grimes will make some changes

We have a lot of offensive weapons and our DBs are going to be a major source of consternation this season.

I don’t see how anyone watching thinks Gus is the one solely responsible for calling the offense.

Finally, I have always hated and rarely if ever blamed refs for a game, but the two PI calls on LSU’s last drive absolutely caused that outcome. Sure would have could have should have earlier in the game, but LSU never would have crossed the 50 and we would have gotten the ball back to run out the clock.

We just have to hope this LSU loss motivates the team the same way it did in 2013 and last year.

Fair points. Stidham deserves the lion share of the blame IMO. Look at the stats.

We out rushed them. We had similar passing stats. We each turned the ball over on downs. The difference was the 2 INT's. To a lesser extent the difference was Burrow making plays on 3rd down and Stidham not making plays.

Sure Stidham was not good but our defense was really bad yesterday. Couldn't get off the field. Got negative pressure on the QB. Corners can't cover. This defense is dying for a Jeff Holland.

fair points but it's all irrelevant if we pressure Burrow better. This seems like a broken record but every year a few games in we're trying to figure out how to generate more pass rush. Not sure if that means bringing more bodies or giving some of the young guys more reps on 3rd and long like Jubiner. Better pressure yesterday and we win easily. Worst case scenario they never cross the 50 on that last drive.

No pressure on the qb, dbs lost in coverage,... our defense struggled all game!!
That, coupled with the fact that our o-line is hot garbage, IMO, is why we lost that game!

I am not saying the defense played great, but they gave up 15 points yesterday if you take the gift points early off the board. Even if you don't they only gave up 19 points yesterday because the INT assured a FG. Our offense cost us the game more than our D IMO. I put that on Stidham. The play calling was fine yesterday.

The OL play was what we should expect...we had a better ypc average than LSU and more yards rushing. Burrows won the game and IMO Stidham probably lost it or at the very least didn't do much to win it. We gave up a sack and they gave up 2 sacks. Our OL actually against that front held their own.

Agreed on all of that. What sucks is that the home-away games are reversed this year. We’re staring 4-5 losses right in the face now. You can’t lose that game at home.

The second PI in particular was atrocious. Shouldn’t be called at any point in any game on a play like that, much less the game winning drive of an SEC dog fight.

This team is a soft gooey mess with zero leadership on the field.
That falls squarely on the gus and his highly paid assistance

I think if the PIs had not happened when they did, there would have been one on the hill to marry the way those refs were calling the game. They were determined to call them.

I think the Arkansas game is where you will learn more about auburn 2018 than the lsu game. See what they do post lsu loss, especially to a Arkansas fcs quality cupcake team. If Auburn struggles, they have no leadership. If they come out on fire, it could be a repeat of 13 and 17 post LSU.

This team is way beyond 1-2 2017 team right now.

When people calm down, we lost by 1 to a team that is loaded with talent. They played a cleaner game, and their QB did not turn the ball over. AU has a higher upside. We just didn't take them as serious as we should have. A common phrase in football is you can't get a team up but for 2-3 big games a year. We have four teams on our schedule that have top 5 potential. We found our RB. Our WR group is very talented. Our OL has already played two of the top DLs in the country and held their own. We have a lot to build on, and this L doesn't prevent us from reaching any season goals. WDE.

Half truth. I like aggressive but we just went down the field throwing the ball and then ran it 4 straight plays. It’s dumb af

The team did not seem well prepared to start the game and Stidham had no rhythm or vision. Just not sure there is one problem or just not a well coached team with no real motivation.

Half truth indeed. Just like against Washington, there are times to be aggressive and times when we simply cannot leave points off the board. In defensive slobber knockers, we should take the points early and then see where the game goes. Maybe use more aggressiveness in the offensive game plan by going vertical more often? The only reason why Gus is absolved from the decision of leaving points off the board early is if he lacks trust in his kicker and there is no evidence of that yet.

You take the points against teams that are trying to upset you, especially at home.

You go for it when you have nothing to lose.

That is the basic rule of thumb for any decision on whether to fg or go for it.

Very fair. I was fit to be tied yesterday evening, but I'm a little more rational today. Things we can build on:

Receivers: this is the best group we've had since Aro/Obo/Mix/Taylor. Seth Williams...what a pair hands that guy has huh?

Boobie - He is not an elite back, but he's starting to figure out how to run between the tackles, make cuts, and get upfield.

Tight End- we threw to the Tight End. I repeat, we threw to the tight end.

Run Defense - solid. Pass D, not so much, but we can stop the run against anybody.

That’s a good and simple rule of thumb. Maybe too simple at times (depending on the situation) but generally widely accepted. I can get down with that.

So that just randomly happened due to some karmic happenstance?

Or is there a person involved in this program that’s responsible for those kind of attitudes?

I don't think it is an easy task. We are playing a lot of new guys and freshmen. There will be growing pains. Again, we lost by 1 to a talented group. This wasn't a Tubs era loss where we got blown out by Arky or Ga Tech. Flags we can work on. Freshmen will get better. We will continue to progress. We are starting a CB that was a WR last Jan.
