I think we beat Tennessee

Tennessee seems to be getting a lot of credit for playing Texas close on Saturday. In reality, the game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicated.
Tennessee's Offense finished the game with just 221 total yards and averaged 2.91 yards/play. A huge chunk of those yards came in the final 3 minutes when Texas' defense went soft. Until the final two possessions, Tennessee's offense had managed just 3 points (there was a special teams TD). They had just 136 total yards with an average of just 2.19 yards per play.
Outside of Texas, they've played no one with a pulse. Their three other opponents (Furman, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw St) are a combined 0-7 against FBS opponents.
Auburn meanwhile is getting zero credit for our resume... Yes, the game against Florida was not as close as the final score indicated, but the Gators are looking like a very real Top 10 team. Baylor and Vandy are both 3-1 and each have a win over another Power 4 team.
I think we go into Knoxville and surprise everyone with a win.

I think it’s possible but we’re going to have to play better than we’ve seen so far.

The defense for Texas looked really good....Tennessee's defense got 6 sacks on Saturday and might get more against this Auburn OL.

I hope I am wrong, but my gut is telling me that just like last year, we will play hard and get close, but will lose yet another of many games by less than a touchdown, with the 4th quarter being when most of the games are lost. Hopefully this team can turn things around and have a great season. Beating Tennessee would go a long way making Auburn fans feeling a lot better than we do now.

I think we can win but it's because I think Tennessee has been trending towards mediocrity for a little while now.
The Heupel system has been found out at this level, and he has not adjusted. Hopefully Golesh will.

SP+ has TN as the 14th best offense in college football (Auburns 53th)… that’s with a true freshman QB. Tennessees issues under Huepel have largely been on defense.
UTs finished top 4 in the SEC in total offense every season under JH.
Sometimes I wonder if you guys watch games other than AU.

Would be a huge win if it happens but Tennessee is pretty good on both sides of the ball.
Weather is looking like steady rain Saturday so maybe that helps us.

I like the wishful thinking but hope isn’t a strategy. We don’t win on the road with how we’re playing right now. Could AU surprise- sure- will they? Not likely based on our first 4 games.
UT has a good total offense-ranked 39th (we are 65th) they didn’t play well Saturday but they are capable of explosive plays. Our “third and forget it” defense’s inability to get off the field, coupled with bad tackling will give UT plenty of opportunities.
UT has a solid defense. Total defense ranks 30. We are 85th.
Our slow starts on offense thus far and early turnovers have put us in a hole. We overcame it at home on Saturday- because of special teams. Does lightning strike twice? Ultimately our inability to protect a slow release QB could result in multiple sacks or a turnover and our inability to run the ball will create disproportionate time of possession.
I do believe we will play hard- I just don’t see us fixing all of the above and overcoming a good team at home.
I think our offense scores 10 points in quarters 1-3 and adds another late like we did against UF. I see us getting 17 points.
I think UT is capable of scoring 20+ on us.
I see 24-17 or something like that.
Maybe the weather changes the equation in our favor. That could change the outcome more in our favor-

High level I think the teams are similar… solid defenses and flawed offenses. I think UT is dealing with some injuries on the OL, and Brandon was not the same after his stinger. I bet his shoulder was sore as hell yesterday.
I don’t hate the way this game sets up for us, but being first true road game could be a factor. I do think us having a bye next weeks means we’ll see Brown more involved in the run game.
I think Vols win but don’t cover… something like 24-20.

He lucked up with Aguilar (Aguilar lost his job when Nico went to UCLA so he was an easy pull to Tennessee; and he lucked up with Hendon Hooker- a QB he was forced to start because of injury despite the fact he didn't want Hooker to start. )
Tennessee ranked third in the SEC in scoring defense in each of the past two seasons of 23 and '24.. The 16.1 points per game the Vols allowed in 2024 was their lowest scoring average allowed since the 1998 national title season and the 209 points allowed in 2024 were the lowest Tennessee has allowed in a season since 1999 (194).
In 2025 the defense regressed a little bit.
He had a great OL thanks to Pilot. I remember when Payton Thorne statistically had a better season even though Nico "led" his team to the playoffs.

They couldn’t run the ball and got sacked 10 times against Texas. Their offense looks familiar. 
Faizon Brandon is just 1 sack away from Byrum Brown’s NCAA leading total sacks on the year. I hope Faizon can pull away this game.

Their only other scoring drive (field goal in first quarter) was aided by 30 yards of Texas penalties.

Regardless I don't trust the Tennessee offense. Cant.
Heupel has never beat Georgia. Texas is more like Georgia. Oklahoma is more like Texas.
