Also I wanted to point out my mother is 82 and in Grandview hospital right now but not for the virus so trust me I’m well aware of the dangers. So don’t give me the bs about not caring for other people and crap because I do. It’s not a political statement it’s just plain science.

I sell baits to a store in the Lanier area. The guy that run the store was extremely close to his grandparents. Basically raised by them. His cousin has a 8 year old boy who the grandparents have been watching all summer since the covid stuff started. The kids mom is a "anti-Covid", "Anti-masker". She went out to a bar, got the virus and gave it to the 8 year old. Neither had symptoms or knew they had it

The 8 year old gave it to the grandparents and the both died in a week.

It spreads fast. It spreads easily. What ever data people want to throw at it, its not like the common cold or flu. Just look at how fast it is spreading within the football and basketball teams.

Nothing is absolute. We just need to do what we can to minimize it until we can get some medical fix, if that is even possible.

Its those darn anti maskers that are the cause huh

eta: pretty shitty of you to lay blame on the the mom when you have zero fricking clue how or where the virus was contracted. Just speculation on your part to fit your "wear your mask" attitude

Thanks to everyone for the condolences.

The really sad thing is that (as with many other families) the funeral is a graveside only with just family in attendance.

My mom, her other sister, and brother, had not seen my aunt since March because they are all older, and medically fragile, so they have had to isolate. And now their final goodbye to their sister is with a closed casket and a few minutes before it is put in the ground.

Not only does that seem to rob them of a fair last goodbye, it also takes away the other ritual of funerals in where you hear stories from people that the deceased has touched in other areas of their life - work, church, volunteering - and see the amazing good this person did in life that you weren't there to see.

If you went to a Braves game at the Ted, a Thrashers game at Phillips, or a Gladiators game in Gwinnett, and signed the pledge to not drink and drive, and got the little ticket for a free soft drink, it was probably my aunt who gave it to you.

It sincerely makes me smile to see you two being cordial. I was getting very frustrated last night with this thread, if you can keep it cordial I would be pretty happy.

So essentially 10,800 people have died with no underlying conditions and those with underlying conditions the average number of underlying conditions was 2.6.

Any death is to many but this thing is way way overblown.

Sorry for anyone that has lost a friend or family member it truly is sad I’m not belittling that at all. Like I said my mom is in the hospital and 82 years old with poor health with lung conditions. Covid would be a death sentence and now the hospital is wanting to discharge her and send her to a rehab facility where we don’t know if covid patients are there or not.

Problem is that we're a nation of underlying causes.

It amazes me how little people understand this thing 6 months into it. That's a politically manipulated data point. It doesn't mean those other 94% would have died anyway, etc...

Almost every death certificate has multiple causes of death. When you die in a car wreck the car wreck is the reason you died but head trauma, etc is the cause of death.

The virus is very serious. The testing strategy was, is and looks to continue to be a failure. We need to move back toward normal, but there are things that can't be done normally right now because our testing strategy has failed so badly.

I agree that the 6% obsession is absurd and simply not understanding the virus. Underlying conditions are very common.

However, I do think we know enough about the virus and have improved treatment to such an extent that schools, football, restaurants, etc. opening was a no brainer. The outcry against these things was insane to me.

I'd agree. We have to find steps back to some version of normal. But pretending like the virus isn't serious or was manipulated into a pandemic is just silly.

It's possible to do many things we once did safely if you use common sense. In the same light many things mainly large group, indoor gatherings aren't safe right now. Especially if people continue to ignore simple science and refuse mask wearing as an option to allow versions of normalcy to return.

I have and know several others. I was pretty sick for about a week. I don't know anyone who has died from it. By the way, my wife takes hydroxy chloroquine for her rheumatoid arthritis and didn't get sick from me after being trapped with me in the house for 2 weeks.
