CORRECTED: Despite what coach said at press conference, Gus' no weapon policy only applies on or around campus. Does not apply universally if player lives off campus, goes hunting off campus, etc.

I think it's safe to say Stephen wasn't hunting.

I don't want our players to own guns either.

Your second-amendment rights stop where my desire to win football games starts.

Im mixed on it but when a player is riding around as a passenger at night in Auburn Alabama with a handgun on them, Id just like a explanation as a coach.

How about we just ask the players to obey all applicable laws (registration, concealment, etc.)?

Not sure we need to go beyond that. Slippery slope.

I'm sure if a player told Gus he was going hunting with friends/family and they were using a shotgun/rifle, he wouldn't mind.

A football team in the SEC is not a shining beacon of libertarianism, it is a dictatorship. The head coach makes the rules, and if you break the rules there are consequences. Your rights don't extend to your privilege of being on a football team.

If people today only understood this statement, we would repair some of the shite we have screwed up

Just because you live in a free country, that does not mean there are not other rules that at times, dictate your actions

I get it. I'm guessing this means no officially sponsored "Cannibus" tour by the players to legal pot stores in Berkley when we travel to play Cal in 2020?

Just a guess.

Gus obviously not a big fan of 2nd amendment.

Said at press conference that he does not want players to own guns even if they have a license.

Good thing for Bo Jackson that Coach Dye never had such policies. Bo was big into duck hunting, white tail deer hunting, etc. when he was at Auburn.

Meh, you gotta be that way today. I don't really blame him. When you're a football player living on campus, they can pretty much tell you what to do. Kind of like the military.

This isn't about the 2nd Amendment.

doubtful. It'd also be against NCAA rules (and the reason Colorado State isn't suddenly a powerhouse in football)

And consequences to those actions.

Not sure I follow.

The 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights clearly lays out that all citizens have a right to own firearms.

Coach Malzahn has asked his players not to own firearms.

I'm not arguing whether it's a fair and proper request by a college football coach, but Gus is clearly asking his players to waive their 2nd amendment rights if they want to play on his team.
Not a request most Americans take lightly.

If you are going to complain about what Gus said at least get it right.

Bo wasn't taking a pistol duck hunting. Not even a Judge.

I'm ok with it. Specifically with Roberts' example. If he felt the need to carry a gun, he was probably leaving/going somewhere he knew he shouldn't have been.

No he isn't.

If he asks them not to own a gun and they comply, they still have their 2nd amendment rights. There's a huge difference between giving up your 2nd amendment rights and choosing not to own a gun.

Plus I'm guessing he's saying he prefers they don't have a handgun not that they are not allowed to have a handgun although I didn't see the press conference

No violation of the constitution here. He's free to tell his players he would rather they not be packing. I would rather they not be packing too.

The Bill of Rights are the rights upon which the *government* cannot infringe.

You noticed the highlighted words that you wrote, correct?

Your 2nd Amendment rights end where the door of my house begins, by the way. Same holds for clubs, businesses, and other organizations.

(P.S. You will find no bigger supporter of the 2nd Amendment than me, btw. I am a CCL holder in the state of GA, proud owner of 3 hand guns and 1 long gun.)
