Imagine the pressure on Gus, if Gatewood comes out looking like the second coming of Cam Newton. Remember last year, when Gus said Nix and Gatewood were 1A & 1B on the depth chart? Has Gus destroyed Nix, or did he just choose poorly?

Gatewood fanboys will disappear after today

Greatwood got benched last week. He’s starting out of desperation today. Remember when that Kentucky win was a good ‘un?
He should’ve got some PT against Florida. Like maybe a drive at most? Gus messed that up.

quote:You forget about the LSU game? Gus threw a true freshman to the wolves in two hostile away games. Predictable results ensued. Gatewood had already been in the program a full year more than Nix. I don't know if it would have made any difference, but it sure as Hell couldn't have made it worse. I'm surprised those two games didn't destroy Nix as a QB.

Just got to wish Gatewood well.
And for how GUs handled him? What do you expect when you have a chance to bring in a gifted highly ranked legacy QB to compete with. The writing was on the wall...

Gatewood wasn't exactly chopped liver, coming out of high school. Plus, he is bigger and faster.
I wish him well also. Seems to be a great kid and he handled the situation as well as could be expected. The writing was on the wall with our current HC. No matter how bad Nix played, Gatewood was not going to see the field. Shame.

Why they didn't let Gatewood throw?

Testing the D against the run? Setting them up? They were definitely not respecting the pass on that series.

No passes have been thrown by either team.......UGA doesn't need to!

Love to see UGA stick with what works.

I always love these takes. What possible reason would a coach have to start someone when the back up was better.
I actually think some of you believe he would make Nix the starter knowing that Gatewood was better.
This has always been one of the dumbest takes on this board. Same with running backs. We have always had our "best" running backs on the bench. Asa, Roc and now MAR. You know coaches get paid to win and most of the time they play the best players they have to do so.

Confirmed. Gatewood cannot run like Cam

Gatewood has never impressed me on a run play. He’s big. That’s it. He looked good running downhill one time in garbage time in a bowl game. Helpful hint: most college football players look good carrying the ball downhill.

But we have morons who think because he is tall and 25% AA he was Cam. Not really for to either of them.

quote:And just how would anyone know that Nix was better than Gatewood, at Auburn? I can count the number of plays Gatewood got, on one hand. Your reasoning is why Jeremy Johnson kept getting the start. Gus kept trotting him out there, week after week, when a blind man could see he had no business touching the field.

Keep up defending Gus and his awesome decisions with personnel and playcalling. You are becoming the Jeremy Johnson of AU posters.

Tate and other beat reporters were constant that Gatewood was not an SEC QB while at AU. He couldn't make the throws required at this level. I do not like Gus, but Gatewood would never play here for any coach. He doesn't have it. They just said the center is having to set Kentuckys O.

I'm beginning to think you may have had a stroke. Please defend Shivers getting more carries than Tank. I can go back further for more examples of dumbass personnel decisions by the Waffle House King of Wire Road.

Gus actually pulled Jeremy Johnson pretty quickly when it was clear he didn’t have it. He was a preseason heisman candidate and didn’t make it to game 4
