Is Holden still the guy? Hard to see the next head coach building this team around TJ, Ashbackward, or Calzada.

He still appears to be an above average QB by any recruiting standard, which is good, but the bad news is the talent that will be around him...

(I admittedly don't know how all this will work as well as most of you.)

I mean right now it’s either Holden or nobody for the future.

We haven’t seen anything from him so no way to know if he’s any good. You would think with the train wrecks we have at QB, he’d get some playing time.

It looks like Holden unless something incredible happens through the portal.

You've got to play Calzada, and Holden if Calzada is not efficient enough. It's not good at that position. The most important position. Ashford should be a RB or receiver.

We had four red zone possessions in the first half and we got two field goals. Two resulted in turnovers. Penn State had two of those same possessions and they got two touchdowns. Yards were the same. We had dumb play from our QB, while Clifford was going 9-11 on accuracy and rushing on trap plays.

Nobody will play qb unless we get some decent linemen. If he cant run for his life every time a pass is called it doesnt matter if we ended up with a clone of patrick mahomes hes gonna get murdered by our atrocious blockers

In this new world of College = NFL farm league, I wonder whether guys like Holden (and his parents) look at our situation and say, "Nah. I'm going to sit the rest of the year, and then go where I've got a decent OL. No way I'm taking snaps behind those guys and risk killing my promising career."?

No clue on QB.

Process should be AD, new staff, QB.

It is the system that has been created. He could bolt which would leave Auburn looking for another QB. Few teams will have multiple "good" qb's very long in this new system....

Have it on pretty good authority he is serving an unspoken suspension with one more game to go

what the hell could he have done to merit a 4-game suspension in preseason?

When did this change? NFL players have always come from college. Unlike the MLB farm system, players can switch teams now. Maybe I’m misreading this

Geriner is an interesting guy because he actually didn’t have a lot of P5 offers out of high school. He committed to Auburn early as a 3* with a subpar offer list and shut his recruitment down. After that, he slowly climbed to a 4*

I’m sure he’d have options if he wanted to leave but, in my opinion, he’s unlikely to see the field elsewhere sooner than Auburn. And he probably doesn’t have a lot of contacts with P5 programs from his HS recruitment

Very true Lanier. Its funny old farts like you and I see how much the NIL and portal will change the game and many think its a "sidenote", no it is THE note.

This year more kids will enter the portal than get schollys out of high school, that means a whole new staff just to evaluate all potential players who might be in the portal, and an NIL organization that can set up contracts for all existing players as well as financial guidelines for all potential high school AND portal players.

The head of the NIL will be akin to a GM on a pro team. Very odd the dynamics.

I said last week Id just put Holden in, the season is gone anyway, let the kid get some experience. Ike saw it in his playing days with Wuerffel and it didnt turn out too bad.

Even just for this season what do you do? I think Ashford has to start against Mizzou. He certainly isn't some dream QB but I think he has shown just enough to throw back out there. If he struggles, give Calzada a shot.

Something with the coach's wife or daughter would be my guess.

Poster who has a decent track record of being right on 247 is saying Finley has a shoulder sprain and will be out and also Calzada is considering surgery so he can possibly get a RS season so if true that would make Ashford the guy this weekend and Geriner the emergency backup

Let's just play Geriner and get the kid reps. Mizzou would be a good starting point...right?
