This season has nothing to do with play calls, player execution, turnovers etc…

This soft arse culture has to change and change immediately.

I started sounding the alarm in the early fall that we weren’t going live and was only going thud even in scrimmages. How can you possibly be ready to dominate if you don’t practice that way. The story has been told over and over you play like you practice, blaring country or rap music during practice doesn’t help a team focus or prepare it distracts from the attention to detail that can be taught even if you are not the person going through the rep.

I’m not crazy and know it’s not 1980 where you have 3 a days but the days you can hit you better fricking hit. You can’t practice scared you might get an injury, you can’t design you play calling and offense with a fear a player might transfer, good/great players want to be coached hard and coached to be better and if they don’t want that they won’t be worth a crap anyway.

So for the love, put the ball down and go 1v2’s for each side of the ball during the season every Tuesday. In the spring and fall go 1v1s every time you get a chance to hit.

This is the path to get better. It’s time to start coaching.

Absolutely agree. Practicing hitting/tackling/blocking creates a hard team. I don't care about the music. That's whatever. But it's time we bring back good vs good hitting drills.

I don’t have any answers.

I do have questions.

At 2-5, how do you get from “oh no, we’re going to lose again!” To “we can win this game.”

We’ve lost most of the games in the fourth quarter. How do we finish?

100% it’s more of a culture issue than schematic issue. Even the fans have caught some of it. Even here, when we are up double digits in the fourth quarter, all we can think about it how we are going to find a way to lose.

Lol. Bama fans are making the same claims to justify their season.

Quit overthinking it. It has everything to do with shitty coaching (Hugh and co on the offensive side) and player execution (terrible turnovers).

Fans are so stupid.

I suspect many fans are “old Skool ” living in the past.

The days of the Pat Dye/ Wayne Hall physicality are gone … over.
I thought Saban said it well when asked why he decided to retire from coaching … “ the individual players have all the leverage now”

Want to enforce hard core discipline? … sorry Coach, not in the NIL era, … I’m headed to the portal.

It isn’t the players that are soft, it is the administrators of the game that are soft. The NCAA yielded to the profiteering of the big corporations … and now we’re witnessing the results

Last tuesday Coach Freeze brought up again how hard it is to coach hard with players because they might get their feelings hurt.

But it can be done. Pete Carroll has always been buddy buddy with his players and has success no matter where he goes.

Up through the Tubs era, we were known for our hard hitting physicality. We might not win every game, but the opponents would surely feel it the next day.

Since then, we have had players here and there that had that mean streak, but overall, we’re soft.

Maybe it’s the way we practice. There’s an old saying that goes- you play like you practice. So, if we’re not getting after it in practice, then that could account for why we’re so soft in games.

Maybe it’s the spread offense. Our defense seemed to go soft once we adopted the spread. I don’t know, could just be me.

Maybe it is the portal. Coaches don’t want to piss off their star WR or DL, so we practice patty cake instead of the Oklahoma drill.

Whatever it is, it’s Hugh’s job to figure it out and fix it.

The game has certainly changed since I played. I’m not sure it’s for the better. I know they’re trying for player safety, but I don’t know how these guys can tackle anyone without drawing a flag. Did y’all see the fourth qtr of the UGA/Texas game? Two targeting calls made and I didn’t think either one was targeting.

I wonder if more time spent tackling and hitting might help with that.

I dont know. I think a lot of it is just we dont tackle much in practice.

I do have an anecdotal story though. I have a nephew that was a 3A All State player last year, and even him, if I ribbed him or joked with him over a bad play he goes into a shell. Kids get defensive quick.

We need to give up this farce of these players being "students". They are pros. Until they are treated like pros with contracts and pay with clear expectations and the ability to be penalized if expectations are not met, you're going to see softness and mediocrity at increasing levels across college football. You can already see it with teams like Georgia and Alabama who are still loaded with talent. It's only going to get worse until something is settled with this ridiculous state the game is in.

Talent is more spread out. It’s all about QB and coaching and our staff and admin don’t get it. It ain’t 1980. Get QB and good coaches that know the pieces for their scheme

we run a finesse O. Our QB is like a blind bull in a China shop. Our OL is useless. The only thing 77 is good for is picking up his teammate after said teammate gets trucked by the block 77 missed.

as far as our coaching goes.....it leaves a lot to be desired. The luster is off of Freeze for me. He is recruiting well. Maybe the next HC will have some talent when he takes over.

And yet Georgia is winning, Texas is winning, Oregon is winning, Ohio St is winning, LSU is winning, Miami is winning, Penn St is winning, Tennessee is winning, even freaking Indiana is winning.

No, they might not all be winning every game, but in the NIL era of “soft” minded individuals who have been enabled and entitled by “big corporate,” they’re still winning football games.

I’m not letting NIL or the transfer portal be an excuse. If it was, then every program would look similar to us. Weak minded, weak hearted, and weak bodied. Yet, there are still many programs - about the same number as usual each year - playing good football.

So, yes, I do believe Freeze needs to shut the frick up about the difficulties and challenges of today’s football and earn his multi-multi-million dollar contract to build a culture that inspires high quality football.

Time to sit Thorne; he does not have the mental toughness of a WB that’s going to put the tram on his back and win. Sit P Lewis. He can’t block and has cost us several drives. He’s just not good. Either sit Kionte or play hime at old position. He’s a big liability which we saw in bowl game. Play our talented freshman who have more talent than the old guys and probably more work ethic and winning attitude. Get it done Hugh because the fan base and more importantly, the donors are ready to turn on you.
