I have made some dumb posts over the years. This may be my dumbest.

I don’t think Lane was a home run hire if it happened. I think Freeze is a damn good coach but way to much baggage. I actually don’t think there is a home run hire out there to get. Maybe Urban but he’s a weirdo too. I don’t think Lanning is a home run hire nor do I think Franklin or Dykes would be either. So essentially anyone we went after would just recycle the coaching market if we pulled a coach from somewhere and it doesn’t seem we will. I say all that to say frick it…

Hire Coach Lac. No coach will love Auburn like he does. It will suck one day when we have to let him go. Yes I know traditionally Auburn isn’t a place for on the job training but outside of Prime who is gonna flip the recruiting market on its head for AU vs Bama/UGA? No one that I can conceive. Sure our University brand will sell itself.

I think everyone can agree recruiting is the name of the game. It requires the jimmies and joes to have a shot. Carnell is a solid recruiter at his position as running back coach. I hate to even say this but in this polarizing society and the youth brought up the past 10-12 years the “person that looks like me” mentality has been driven into young black Americans. Carnell would open a lot of doors that are closed. I would say T-Will could do the same to some degree.

A comparison to be made from an assistant to Interim to head coach is probably the 2nd best coach in the game now in Dabo. When he took over Clemson no one thought that goofy dipshit would do anything of note. Yet here we are great recruits, championships, and a love for his players. Kind of like Caddy.

I mean realistically who is gonna come in here have the fan base behind them more the Caddy at this point. Every coach has his flaws. Maybe it’s time for Momma to truly hire one of its own. I know all the arguments against it I’ve made them myself. I’m not going on emotion and know that he would have to hire great assistants and probably needs a former head coach to navigate the waters some in some capacity within the program as an off field position or as an assistant.

If Urban, Dabo, Saban, smart, day… any of those want to come sure come on down. If not I see no reason not to roll the dice with one of our own.

Sorry for the long post like I said this isn’t an emotional plea or panic hire. Just different. I don’t want to hire a stop gap, I want a leader of men, a winner as a human, and a chance to be elite. Just some food for thought.

Nawh, you've made way dumber.

( this one's not even close )

BTW: Food for thought.... isn't that what Lane supplied with his childish antics. And damn we were so close to screwing the pooch (by hiring that head case).

We’ve fired two coaches to get a Cadillac?

You are right. We probably will do worse.

However, give Loefler, Grimes, or Elko a chance.

The only thing that worries me for Cadillac is putting him in a position to fail. Being a head coach is job that requires skills and experience. Hiring a guy who is not ready is a disservice to him.

Demeco Ryans would be a revolutionary hire. NFL coordinator, from Alabama, he could keep Cadillac. He will be an NFL head coach soon.

Something tells me Lac doesn’t want the job at this moment. He looks mentally and emotionally spent after all they have been through. He was basically saying after the IB that Auburn is going to be fine no matter who they get. It sure wasn’t the tone or excitement that HE wants the full time gig but I know he WOULD do it for Auburn if need be.

Nobody has discussed this.

ETA: and no, your post isn’t dumb one bit. We were completely in that IB with Bama trading blows with them until the fumble by Cowboy that actually hit the hip of Shenker and then the phantom botched punt return call that clearly never touched the hands. It was all uphill from there. Our defense made good halftime adjustments and we ran it right down their throat and made em like it. I had no idea RA has had a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder since the Mizzou game and couldn’t even throw in practice some weeks. What a WARRIOR.

I think way too much importance is placed on this. Fans, not just ours, reflect society in general. As George Carlin once said "“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” Making a hire based on the wishes of the fanbase is great way to really screw things up.

Has Coach Sanders said no? Who would be his OC abd DC. He must keep caddy as running back coach and asst. HC. Kill it in the recruiting and portal.

Carlin was quite the ole sage.

Always awake and knew exactly how things operated.

He tried to tell us the dangers of being scared of germs as well as how rigged the economy is to enrich the 1% at the top using their skimming operation off of our backs.

Miss that guy.

As most know here, I don't mind giving my opinion. That being said, I also admit that I am no where near qualified to make a coaching hire at multi-million dollar football program. I can only trust that the people tasked with actually doing that, know what they are doing, and most likely posses information that none of us are privy to. All we can do is support whoever is hired until that person fails. The absolute last thing these people should consider when deciding who to hire is the unqualified opinion of the masses. I'm not a fan of some names that others are, but if one of those guys were hired, and wins, there is no doubt the stadium will be full on gamedays and the streets of Auburn will be crowded with tons of people.

Your post is not dumb at all. You just articulated what some of us have been thinking. The truth is that no matter who is hired as head coach, there will be disgruntled fans. I was one of those fans after the Harsin hire. I saw the handwriting on the wall before he arrived on campus. I voiced my objections and listened to many people who did not agree. Almost two years later, we are back to where we started after Gus was fired just with a more depleted roster.
Cadillac may be the only hire that the vast majority of the Auburn faithful will love and support. I worry about setting him up to fail and don't even know if he wants the job. I only know that he loves Auburn as much as we do. I don't think we would ever find another coach who feels that way.

Give him a 2 year 5 million a year contract and let him hire some good coordinators.

If love would win us football games, Cadillac would be my pick.

I would hate to ask that man to be the coach. You know he wouldn't say no, but we also know it's unfair to ask him to step into this mess & his chances for sustained success are limited.

No to caddy. Love the guy, but wouldn’t like to have to fire the Auburn legend if it doesn’t work out. Similar to Scott Frost and Nebraska.

The truth of the matter is this. Cadillac was the face of the program during the improvement over Harsin. He wasn't calling the plays on offense or defense. He probably had input on the gameplan, but Friend is who put it together. I really dig Cadillac, but even he said when named interim coach that he was scared to death because he didn't know what he was doing.

Lord. Why don't we let the Twitter crowd pick the coach?

I think some of you are about as good at picking a coach as Cohen is.
