Kelly is a solid coach, elite recruiter especially in state, and probably a safe hire. Don’t think he would micro manage the OC or DC. He might be the one hire we can keep Durkin

I can easily see the PTB thinking this would be the equivalent of UGA hiring Smart.

What’s wrong with Sumrall? There are no perfect fits or coaches.

Hell on the surface Hugh was the perfect Auburn fit but what a massive failure

No one would be hiring Kelly because he played at AU.

I don’t have a big issue with him. More so just that our leading candidates amount to that.

Who would you add? About the only elite coach outside of Kirby is Lanning now. Auburn is historically the better job then Oregon but not sure Lanning wants the heat at AU especially with Phil Knight pouring money into Oregon.

I do not want Schuman… yuck. He’s one goofy looking fricker

I'm not arguing against any of that. The reality is that Kelly would be a wild hire coming off what just happened with Harsin and Freeze from a fan buy-in and national media storyline. This is the type of hire that would get you laughed at on a national level, lets be real.

Kelly may be solid coach at Jax State. That is not convincing evidence that he can handle the job at Auburn.

If we hire a Kelly…I rather it be Brian than Charles

I don’t want Kelly but to make out that he would be bad hire we simply don’t know. I don’t think he would be an embarrassing hire I think he’s the safe hire.

Sumrall
Key
Durkin

That’s my top 3. Any of the 3 is fine with me

It would be embarrassing if he is the best coach we can get. He has only had the one head coaching job and the competition in Conference USA is nothing like the SEC. I have heard that he can recruit but the question is if he can recruit the talent level required to be competitive on a higher level.

If you think a guy coming off 8-4 and 8-5 seasons at freaking Liberty and one of the most scandal plagued pasts in college football was a perfect hire you are dumber than our PTB were for hiring him. You've said some silly stuff over the years, but Freeze as a perfect fit takes the cake. If over half the fanbase hated the hire from the start, there is nothing perfect about it.

Kelly is a safe hire for what? Ensuring we continue to suck? The regional and national media, as well as the entire conference will laugh their asses off if we hire him. That might be the nail in our coffin as far as our fanbase is concerned.

There are no sure things or anyone stand out available, but that's no reason to make an absolute braindead hire. It's pathetic that he's even a name being mentioned. A frigging 58 year old first year coach who's 5-3 at Jax St. Laughable.

I'd be fine with Key or DJ. Key knows the state.

Why in the world do we care about a former DB coach when we already have Durkin

I’d sit in Brent Key’s living room with an open checkbook until he either agrees to be our coach or throw me out.

Some men need to have their fingers pried off this football program for it to ever have a chance to succeed… despite their money. They are and have been the problem.
