Massive difference. Top 15 NFL draft pick is locked into a contract. 5 star recruit can get multiple millions, then transfer out before his 1st year on campus is over. The system we have in place now, forces coaches to evolve away from HS recruiting, and look more towards portal transfers. Less risk on a bust.
I literally explained that the big difference is that these contracts are not yet enforceable, but that will eventually change. No shite, the long-term CFB model will not include players switching teams every season. This will be figured out eventually.
The post I was responding to was making the claim that it was crazy that HS players are earning 7-figures. But this is exactly how every Pro sport operates, as I explained. Prospective talent is paid to the tune of millions of dollars, without having proven anything.
And keep in mind that while locked in multi-year contracts will add roster stability, it will also mean that college coaches wont be able to just "process" players at will. Just like an NFL team cant simply get a re-do if they happen to draft a complete bust in the 1st round.

These guys that are leaving are a bunch of good players that were good at finding different ways to lose weekly, sometimes you have to flush it and start over.
This is where I am at. This wasn't a reload, it's a rebuild. kiffin built Ole Miss on the portal, not HS recruiting. At this point, we need to do the same thing. Some of the better ones leaving are wanting too much for the production we got from them.

This right here.
It's truly about the money. I can't blame Auburn for this. The reality is we aren't made of money and are not going to write blank checks. Gone are the days of kids staying at a school for 3-4 years for the love of school and the game.

Never said that. Said it was a problem, and why? Because no contracts. Which you pointed to being a problem.

This!! We have developed a culture of losing. But, instead of digging in and being a part of the turnaround, they are bailing to go to “better” programs.
Auburn is the worst program in the SEC right now. And they have been for 5 years. Everyone sees it except the people clutching their degrees. And Im not talking about all of yall
If you take off the blue/orange glasses just for a second, you can see it. I am not as emotionally connected as you guys because I have no feels for it. But, until there is a culture of winning and the program is looked at as a winner again , this shite is going to keep happening.
It is one of the biggest issues with doing what we did in 2020. Auburn is in a hole bad. And digging it deeper. Lets hope that Golesh can do something that will bring back some respect for what was once one of the best programs in the SEC. Because for the last 5 years, it has not been
All this carriage is on Auburn. Not on Golesh

Caps are needed. Transfers need to be addressed. The problem is the NCAA has no teeth. P4 have the power and none will do anything that may take away a possible advantage they can exploit over another.
So what do you do?
I know my plan. It involves getting an AD that is a master marketer and salesman.

Duke’s from Dukes the scoop said it best today.
We are at a place now where we live in a townhouse but have multiple luxury cars. Roster balance is necessary for us to build a foundation to get in a house (or penthouse).
Granted I think some are being Auburn apologists with some of these statements but 5 years of losing I’m willing to try anything different at this point.

Yes when it comes to the NIL and transfer rules but that is not why Auburn has 25 players in the portal and more to follow.
That is because Auburn is a bad football program right now and spent the last two years making it worse by hiring a fake crippled leader.
I made the joke about Auburn being the new Tennessee back in 2020 and it has come true. We still have some pain to go before we come out of this. I think Golesh will do everything he can to make things better. I honestly think that. But if we are looking for him to turn it around this year, we are going to just be more mad. This year is going to suck and it is going to suck bad.
I will be willing to bet anyone here 10 spinnerbaits againt a nice bottle of whiskey that Duece will be out of here soon. He probably is just looking for a landing place right now
I normally think a program can be turned around with the current rules in two years but I just am not sure if that is possible on the plains. The schedule is just too hard from year to year to allow for that. We have zero breathing room to learn

Hell, Florida just had their Freshman AA DE declare he is going to the portal. This is the current state of the game.
I will be getting a degree of some sort from Samford here in Birmingham. Looking forward to meaningful games played by kids who are just happy to be there. frick this shite.

We still have about 10-15 more years before we become UTk.
Which if I remember correctly you think Auburn is just kind of meh anyway. You know the historical average of 8-4 you always harp on about.
When in reality we generally are like a roller coaster very highs a few medium teams then a couple terrible teams then the cycle repeats.
Regardless of what is going on now the genesis starts at Bryon Haskins. Frick that dude

Totally agree but I don't think we are the worst team...Ar-Kansas says hello..
I want to give Golesh time as he has to fundamentally change the culture. If we have all of our high paid folks leave well maybe we were overpaying. We change the culture and start winning. When we start winning & make the playoffs we will have people wanting to come & play. I like the incentive NIL that we have adopted.

They beat us.
We are a 8-9 win program like it or not. History tells us that. Except for now which we are a 5 win team.
I said when Gus was fired that we had to be careful not to fire him, who was winning at or above Auburns historical average with very high highs, without a plan to bring in someone who could better things. I said if we did that, we would become the new Tenn meaning we would be changing coaches every couple of years until someone stuck. Which is the cycle we are in right now.
I agree on Harsin but dont forget that Auburn tried to sabatage him before he ever did anything. After that, he seemed to just ride the pine till he got paid.

I said the same be careful what you wish for. Gus was a very good coach.
But you are wrong about Auburn being this average type program. We have historically played probably the most difficult schedule year in and year out for a majority or our program history. We are in the Top 13 of all programs. We have been an elite type program since Dye turned the program around. Granted we rarely get the benefit of the beauty pageant but the sheer number of undefeated seasons tells you everything you need to know about how great of a football program Auburn is.

quote:Harsin was a very bad hire, but our PTB turned him into a program killer with that bullshite, very public, investigation into the assistant he brought with him from Boise. A whole lot of better people would have a very serious axe to grind after that shitshow. As bad as Harsin was, our admin had a lot to do with it.

Harsin was horrible with help from no one

I’m just hoping wherever Cam goes he can learn to read an analog clock so he doesn’t have to continue wearing 2 watches.
