Yeah I think we're over-thinking this. The simplest explanation is there's a verbal agreement but nothing signed and a well connected reporter in Mississippi got wind of it.

I guess, but Kiffin is going to look like a turd when it actually happens. I don’t know how else he would’ve played it though. You can’t just ignore it.

I don't think Kiffin has done anything wrong here (to either side). He has kept quiet except when asked. And when asked he gave a standard "I'm happy here" answer without any strong denials. What else is he supposed to say?
Kiffin knows that Sokoloff guy and was retweeting him just a few days ago. So when that Tweet hit tonight, he had no choice but to respond in some way. All he said was "news to me" which might in fact be true (it's possible no firm deal has been offered yet).
I don't know what will happen. Knowing past AU searches, AU will hire someone none of us expected.

Kiffin really can't do anything but wait if it's Auburn. If it was OM he would announce it and go on with his class for next year. He's got to be near if not at the end of his offers by now (signed or not). The only other reason is that he wants Auburn and they have him hanging. 90% of this being a big story is the media. They rushed the process to almost done before they were in talking good and no matter where talks were actually.

There would’ve been no offer. We were probably just finding his ballpark price. If we were willing after learning his ballpark price we would offer and he would happily accept.

I would honestly prefer him to Kiff. Not as flashy a hire, but would be a better option long-term (and maybe even short- and medium-term, too).

I kinda feel Kiffin stuff is too good to be true but there is no reason to move onto anyone until we at least offer the guy lol. Relax buddy

A few years ago I woulda been fine with it. But now not so much. He has been pretty average at PSU (.678 win percentage. Not bad, not great).
He has been there 9 seasons and has only won the East once. To be fair, he is in the East with OSU and Michigan, so I get that it's rough sledding. But still. It's not like PSU is Purdue or Indiana.

I just dont see how Kiffin stays at Ole Miss at this point - just kinda feels like he's burned some bridges, and there is no reason for him to drag it out like this if he was going to stay. He's got the Ole Miss extension already.

This is Miss State trying to stir drama before the Egg bowl. They obviously directed a reporter to leak this to cause distractions at ole miss.
