AUBURN, Alabama—A partnership with Under Armour that started in 2006 will be no more as Auburn Undercover has learned that Auburn will be signing a new deal with Nike to be the official apparel and shoe provider for the athletic teams beginning when the current deal runs out at the end of the 2024-25 school year. The new agreement could be announced as early as Tuesday.

The new deal is expected to be for 10 years and monetarily it puts the Tigers among the top programs in the country that will be wearing Nike gear, a source confirms. Connections like Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley and Apple CEO Tim Cook, an Auburn grad, all played a part in helping push this deal over the top. It's a deal that Auburn athletics director John Cohen recently hinted was close to the finish line.

Are we losers if we continue to wear our UA gear beginning in the fall? So much to get rid of.

What does among the top programs mean? Want to see what the money looks like.

If it resonates with the recruiting and helps the school in that way that’s fine but their apparel is straight cheese. I’ll stick to wearing my gen teal brand AU shirt for game days

thank goodness. i'm not sure if this will affect football recruiting at all, but this is going to help bball recruiting non-negligibly. hopefully they won't tweak our uniforms. maybe we will get a nice alternate-ish look once every couple of years though.

I hear you, but Auburn fans en masse will purchase Auburn gear to the tune of 20-30,000,000.00 plus per year.

This is really telling
quote:

When Auburn signed the current long-term deal with Under Armour in 2015, the Tigers were paid, in part, with $10 million in stock options. Under Armour stocks were trading at $54 at the time, the company’s all-time high. April 2020 was the then lowest point at $8 per stock. Stocks rebounded upwards to $20 in July 2021. As of March 1, 2024, Under Armour stocks were valued at almost $9 before dipping downwards to $7 a share after it was announced that founder Kevin Plank would return to the CEO seat. On April 5, the price had dipped even lower to $6.80.

Run the numbers on each of these points and you’ll get a clear indication of the spiral Under Armour has experienced. The $10 million in 2015 was valued at $1.7 million in 2020 and $3.725 million in 2021. At the low of $6.80 per share, it’s now valued at $1.259 million.

Under Armour’s financial issues have been well documented and have had lingering effects on the company, its public perception, and the teams wearing the UA logo.

The ink is still drying on the Auburn-Nike contract. Once the deal is public, we’ll break down all of the details just as we did in 2015.
