Gus did not help Stidham.
The long developing dipsy doodle, whirly birt, orbit motion plays take 5 to 6 seconds to develop.
It will be interesting to see JS perform in a pro quick throw offense over the course of a season.

Even if he's an okay one, thats still a great career for a 4th round pick.
Totally agree. Just the fact that he is still in the NFL is a great thing. Plus, he may get the opportunity, though I feel for a short time, to captain the best NFL franchise in a long time with the best coach ever.
People have certain things in them. They dont change. Not what is inside them. Cam can try all he wants. He is a showboat, a attention whore and a guy who hates to lose. On the flip side, Stidham is scared to death and that just does not change. In a perfect world, the can throw the ball accurately. Unfortunately that perfect world is not in the NFL.
I like the guy. I really do. He is just not a alpha and that is what is required

Truer words have never been spoken. Stidham has all the tools a QB could ever want. He is lacking between the ears and in the chest.

Someone should probably tell Belichick that, then.
(ie: if it was so set in stone that he was this supposed giant pussy who cries himself to sleep as per Auburn Message Board experts, why is he even still in the NFL? Let alone getting an opportunity to start games?)

I am not sure. Stidham was put in in a blow out win. He promptly threw a pick 6 and was pulled. Moving on from Brady has nothing to do with Stidham.
ETA BTW, A.J. McCarron is still in the league. Some things are just head scratchers.

Backup QB's in the NFL are a weird thing. Ryen Russillo of The Ringer talks a lot about this. The ones who stick around as backups for 10-12 years are a very particular type of guy and I think Mccarron kinda fits the mold.
Backups are rarely future starters and they are rarely past long-term starters.

The NFL is a hard league; and its entirely probable that he fails. None of that changes the fact that its hard to imagine Bill Belichick of all people wasting his time with someone who is supposedly completely inept "between the ears". They've seen the same game film you have, in much greater detail, and they would have done even more thorough background interviews with coaches, staff members, and former teammates.

Peyton Barber signed with the Redskins for 2 years and $3 million with $600k guaranteed

These things can both be true. I imagine Belichick believes his system can neutralize or correct the “between the ears” issues that Stidham had in college.

The key thing is that Josh McDaniels is still the OC at NE. WIth him, he probably knows more of what JS is capable of doing, and how he can best be used in the same offense TB has utilized as McDaniels has been their OC for 11 years.
Not all, but one of the problems Stidham will face, if he is given the chance as #1 is NE has not done a good job of keeping top level WRs other than Edelman(and he is 33 now) on the field. TE Watson has retired. Brady complained that he didn't have a quality set of WRs. And Now Stidham inherits it.

A lot of the reports out of Boston is that McD / Belichick are trying to move their offense to take advantage of mobile QBs. Not necessarily Lamar Jackson but think Russ Wilson mobility in pocket, extension of plays + threat to run when left unaccounted for
Stidham is actually a solid athlete and I'd expect them to do a lot more roll outs and creative things to get him moving.

Lots of positive feedback coming out of NE regarding Stidham.
One of the areas for improvement was holding on the ball too long....that sure does not translate to not having heart.

True, but that also tells me he is still doing some of things wrong he did at Auburn(Holding onto the ball too long)...or waiting to throw only when he sees his WR open.

Oh I agree, he many times looked for the certain completion, but that could be a reflection of his receiving corp.
I was watching some film of old Steeler games, frigging Bradshaw threw into coverage HE NEVER should have thrown into, but of course if Swann or Stallworth are on the other end...ya gotta like those odds.

Good thing that he can cover kicks because he sure as shite can't cover WRs.

Official Auburn twitter did a Nick Coe pre- draft commemorative video. Pretty cool.
Draft starts tomorrow I believe.
