When I saw that pic, I immediately thought of this:
Our fanbase need an off-season spider hole....

Yurich just told a radio station he took his name out of running. LMFAO
This will end up being such a shitshow.

Sterlin Gilbert would still be a good hire. After that, there is more reason to worry.

you guys literally have no idea what's happening in the OC search
This is a little short of the mark.
We know, for instance, that an OC has not been named. That is a glaring fact. Thus, we have no lift going into a huge recruiting weekend. I don't think it is just semantics to say that a big hire announced a week ago would be better than a big hire announced this Friday or Saturday.
Days matter. Maybe not to older guys, but it matters when you are dealing with 18-19 year olds.
I won't argue that getting it right matters more, but that goes to my earlier point that Gus and JJ are not institutional leaders. I get that not everybody can be a great CEO. Maybe Gus' talent is motivating and leading young men to victory, and that is valuable. But if that's all he's got, then fire our AD and get somebody in there who has a pair.
In every great company, there is at least one person who is a GET shite DONE guy. Economy, Weather, Legal issue, Personnel issues: it doesn't matter. No excuses. Right now, we don't have that. And it shows.

He backed out because nobody spelled his name right in the message boards.

No established OC is going to "blend" his offense with Malzahn and let Gus meddle in play calling.
Yurich and Helfrich probably laughed at the idea

I dont know about that. A lot of them have had to do that too because they came into being OCs by being hired by offensive minded HCs, and were asked to build or modify what they used.
I think it is more of....do they want to take a chance with a HC who is into his 5th year and being asked to change his offensive philosophy and whose seat is getting warmer?

"The day Rhett left" is a really amorphous concept. I've fired and accepted resignations from a lot of people. Five years later we both have different versions of who left who. It is the same with Rhett.
Great CEOs have contingency plans, and contingency plans for the contingency plans. Thus, they've begun to develop those plan B and C relationships long before the day that they need those guys. If Gus and JJ haven't been doing that since day one, they have failed to prepare.
Prior Proper Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance...the Seven P's of Success.

After preseason practice, Gus should have been reaching out to other OCs, telling them the narrative that he wanted to spin. (If Gus didn't know the problems he had BEFORE the Clemson game, he needs to go to the Division 3 ranks anyway.)
"Listen, I've got some pretty big issues with my QBs. This could extend to my WR corps and this season could turn into a real shite show. I'm going to let Rhett go at the end of the season, if things don't shape up. I'd like to get you on board here, if that happens. What do you think?"
Then check in with those who showed interest every couple of weeks. Start talking strategy.
Of course, these calls are only an extension of relationships he's ostensibly been building since he got here. The pump should already be primed.

I don't know about that. He let his name float out there quite a while and ended up formally withdrawing it.
I think it's probably more likely he knows he isn't getting the job, or Auburn was making him wait and he wasn't comfortable with how that impacts his positioning at OK St

Who knows if this hasnt been done.
The issue is more about who the PTB, when finally involved (and they would not have been while CGM was building a list of coaches over his time here), would agree too.
Or the issue is more about Gus being in his 5th year, somewhat on the hot seat, and NOW he has to get real answers from those coaches (who may have wanted to come before, but now are unsure if Gus will be here in 1-2 years).

Because doing this is how Jetgate happened in '03. We lost an athletic director and arguably a university president over htis
You are an absolute idiot if you think that is how it is done

Am I wrong to expect Gus to hire a OC from a high school team?
Posted on 1/18/17 at 1:43 pm to PrisonMike
Damn, you post a bunch of dumb shite. Reach out to other coaches before the season starts? ehat if that news got out?... it'd be jetgate type shite all over again.
