Honestly, I think they just put themselves in the Gus trap but only worse. IF he stays successful they can't keep him. If he goes downhill, they can't fire him.

I’ve had time to digest this now, and here are my thoughts.
He is a coach in search of redemption. Now that we have given him a shot, I feel like he will be fiercely loyal to us and work his arse off for us. We won’t have to worry about him bolting in two or three years- ala Lane. Rumor has it that the buyout language was a sticking point with him.
Also, Freeze WANTS to be here. Didn’t he say that he would walk to Auburn? He’s not a mercenary coach. He knows what a special place this is. Given his motivation, our facilities, and the NIL money, this could be a deadly combination for the SEC.
I feel like we got a better coach than we realize. Now, let’s turn this thing around.
