How much hope did you have under Harsin/Freeze? I had zero hope for Harsin. I knew that was going to end badly before his plane landed in Auburn. I wanted to have hope during Freeze but what little I could muster was dwindling rapidly.

It’s a good thought and would possibly mean something to players and endearing to the fans but th old saying still applies…

Can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shite

That's 3. You need at least 41 more. Danby was highly recruited, and at 6 ft 6, with athleticism, has measurables to drool over.

I really do like your sentiment, but I don't see that producing any success on the field. I'm getting sick of watching entitled 20 year old millionaires running up and down the field, especially when they're not even winning.

I'm also a huge believer in "Hard Work beats Talent when Talent does not work hard." However, when Talent does work hard (and sometimes when it doesn't), Hard Work alone is going to get embarrassed.

Plus, all of the less-talented kids you want to recruit who are not "all that" still think they're "all that."

I fear intercollegiate athletics is broken beyond repair.

Are you really advocating that we should hit the recruiting trail with a sales pitch of "Come to Auburn. You don't have a shot in hell of making the NFL, but you can have a decent college career"?

We are either capable of being a top team in this new college football reality or not. If not, then at least in a decade or so, a game ticket should be pretty affordable again.

Freeze had a top ten roster. They had no heart. No pride. No motivation to perform. No discipline. No accountability.

All those stars. All that potential. You get 5-7 seasons.

Whether it was coaching, the players not living up to their rating, or no one in the building caring about the school or the product on the field, I’m glad that this era is coming to a close.

I can’t wait until Friday when we start hearing about who wants to come to campus.

For some reason I thought dansby was not as heralded as a Takeo Spikes, but I guess he was an elite athlete.

At the end of the day, I don’t get any input into the selection/recruitment/contracting of players.

Golesh will either succeed or fail.

I hope he is successful.
I’m tired of losing.

and if the ceiling is 9-3, thats good enough to get in the CFP (especially if it expands again, which seems highly likely) - once you make the postseason then there’s always the opportunity of getting hot/lucky enough to win it all
You want to create apathy in a fanbase? Say that your ceiling is 9 wins. That was the bullshite that was spewed for decades at Ole Miss. And that’s exactly what it is. bullshite. Especially at a place with the resources Auburn has

Pretty sure he’s talking about the short-term and not decades like Ole Miss. Just like your success is very likely to be short term and OM will fall back to its historical place, and probably pretty soon.

I agree. Compete to win it all every year.

I guess you start out with Ben Leard or Brandon Cox as your national championship QB.

To Indiana’s credit they did have the Heisman winner as QB and not a Ben.

who’s name was noticeably absent on every preseason Heisman watch/NFL draft prospect list

dont pretend that anyone thought Mendoza was a Heisman quality QB when he entered the portal

I admit I didn’t think he was a Heisman guy, but I saw something pretty special about him when we played CAL. I wasn’t pretending by the way, just saying pulling Ben Leard out of a hat compared to Mendoza even before Heisman caliber season was lame.

Unless I am totally missing the meaning of the reference. I wouldn’t put that past me.

The Heisman was a down year this year and though I didn’t have him as a Heisman winner I definitely believed he could put the numbers up that he did.

You pivot once you stabilize. And that'll happen naturally for a program like Auburn. We start going 9-3 again and top guys are gonna wanna come be a part of the group that gets back to the top. Go 10-2 the next year and more guys are ready to hop on board.

It could work.

I continue to be baffled by the Freeze era of Auburn Football. His offense sucked in every possible way - play calling, scheme, game day execution, you name it.... He did not instill a winning culture when he knew there was no existing leadership returning. He failed miserably on QB evaluation and development. He does have some history at doing SOME things, so why was he so inept here with all the tools to succeed? Even the haters have to admit, this was a crazy result.

But to OP's point.. This offense can work and possibly thrive with 'system' pieces at all the skill positions. So maybe we can be successful with lower rated players there.

This! I had hoped to keep some of these guys. Golesh has gotta find why Auburn has underperformed their talent level for the past several years. The more its cleared out the easier it will be to change the programs vibe, so it could be helpful. Auburn can start winning again, but it wont be adding more talent to a rotten core. Theres a whole portal full of 3 stars that with hard work could raise the bar from what we have been given. Its not all the transfers fault, they were shown or taught they can give little effort and not be reprimanded.
It blows my mind how many fans and kids look up to these heavily incentived young guys, fill the stands no matter how bad AU is and they cant give their best effort to maybe make these childhood memories better
