He will have his chance. I am just not going to put much expectation on him suddenly becoming a double threat. Please Robby prove me a fool. I love his speed and elusiveness, but if we are going to compete against the elites, he needs to be just as competent at passing. To me, in all my lack of knowledge, he seems far away from a competent passer.

Good news. Downtown Hank Brown ain't gonna let anyone else start for 4 years anyway.

I am counting him out based on him being a head case, a pouter and a guy who doesnt learn from his mistakes. Dude acts like a down right child when he was given the controls to a huge program. He is a running back, playing quarterback to start with.
I am not saying Freeze cant make him a little better but he will not beat out of him what is inherently inside his head.
I hope I am totally wrong but I have only made a stance on a few quarterbacks early like this. I dont see him being the guy that is going to lead a "new" team. I just dont see it.
Hopefully for the team, the program and all of us fans, we wont have to find out and Freeze will find someone else, even if its someone already on the team, that will be our starter.

Thanks for the reminder about how broken he gets over mistakes. That is a huge deal. I get not everyone is like Bruce Young, but man you don’t have to guess if Ashford is rattled, it’s on clear display and that is a bad trait for a QB.

It is a huge deal for a quarterback. Its a personality trait and that is haaaaaaaaard to change. Trust me. I have a couple that I have worked on for 40 years.
I know people are talking about a great throw he made in one game but come on. One thrown in one game? Lets not gamble our program another year on that. Not after all the work that has gone into this thing the past month.
I trust Freeze and I know he will do the best he can with what he has but a competent Quarterback has to be a HUUUUUUUUGE priority for him

He is a mental midget. From what I understand, that has been the take on him since High School. And he is just not smart enough to deal with it. The first time he played for Auburn, he was trying to start a fight with the linebackers on the first series.
He can NOT be our quarterback next season.

Keys and Tolan pick ups are huge. Was very disappointed in our LB play and would be surprised if they don’t start next year, with Woodyard getting a lot of reps. Big upgrade for our D from a yr ago. If we can rush the passer, we should be a top SEC d.

If Ashford was so great after 2 years at Oregon, why did they bring in Bo Nix? Also he was the third string there as well and started the season as the third string behind CALZADA who was by all accounts not that great either.
I’ll gladly eat crow if Ashford somehow makes a complete 180 and lights it up next season, but for now all signs are pointing to the fact that Freeze and Montgomery see real issues with him thus why they are looking at experienced transfer QBs.

I don’t see the issue with it? He believes in himself

Pretty sure he was second team and ahead of Calzada the whole time. It’s wild that it appears Calzada immediately checked out once Austin Davis left after being here for 4 hours.

Really curious to see how the defense looks next year… top 30 is possible… but pieces gotta gel together.

A player of his standing/caliber needs to just shut up until he actually proves something. This is a 3rd/4th string QB who only got onto the field because the season collapsed and the QB they actually brought in to play opted to have surgery instead of stepping onto the field.
No offense, but if you're a 3rd stringer who gets pushed onto the field and performs badly, the idea of this whole "ya'll better respect me!" nonsense just looks horrible. It shouldn't even need an explanation.

Calzada injured his shoulder in some idiotic non-football team event wherein they were trying to hit tennis balls out of Plainsman Park with a tennis racket. It's not exactly known how healthy he was during the Fall camp or when the injury occurred, but he of course never took the field and then eventually had shoulder surgery.

Zac at locked on Auburn had Hank Brown on for an interview, Zac had been referring to him as the baby GOAT, Hank got a kick out of it.

Never like Calzada so I don’t really care lol.
I don’t disagree with the talk about Robby’s mental. He certainly hasn’t shown a ton of maturity. But right now he’s probably our QB until we bring in someone else. Maybe someone or something can humble him.
What’s this class up to now rankings wise?
