No, but team after team (especially now) have demonstrated that it takes talented players AND coaching development to win championships.

That’s what you have with Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Alabama, etc, every year.

I personally think recruiting will progress based on what Auburn does on the field this year. New coach in a brand new conference…of course recruits are hesitant. And it’s okay to say our recruiting right now is not good. It’s also okay to be okay with that.

LB is going to be interesting. I think Jones said a bit Jack before the derailment Pollard to Mich was gaining ground, so looks like your news confirms it. That is one that is probably far from over, especially if we get Story.
Apparently Pollard is also related to Braylon Edwards, so he has the family thing working for both sides.

If anyone had any goddamn sense you’d put together that it’s ideal to have elite development of elite talent. And that they go hand in hand with eachother. But no! Gotta pick an extreme and defend its stupidity to the point where people are asking you to frick off

Literally this.

And BTW, Harsin's "plan" is not to recruit 3-star talent. Once his system and program is in place and the recruiting relationships are established, you will see this. At this point you can't say anything to change anyone's find though, so the sooner the season starts the better. Don't worry guys, you'll forget about Gustav soon enough.

And meanwhile, the news and relevant information for the 2022 class gets lost

This is what is annoying. Makes it hard to figure out what’s happening. We know we got some motherfrickers that like to bitch and moan. Maybe mods can have a separate Recruiting Talk/Bitch Thread (Bryan Harsin Era) pinned and have this titled as news and info.

Oh interesting. Definitely makes sense then. Sucks though. I like him. Hopefully we can swing him back during the season.

In reality, we just need Mason to identify some of his LB’s diamonds he had at Vandy and we’ll be good

I would say that 3 of those also benefit from a vary easy schedule.

Any ideas for next commits or really high targets? I know Damari Alston is committing in the next couple of weeks and then Story, but anybody else? Also, any word on if we are looking at any other transfers?

I think this staff is always looking for transfers but they’re specific and I haven’t quite figured out their taste yet

4* DE Caden Story, 4* S (&4* PG) Tre Donaldson, 4* RB Damari Alston, 3* WR Jay Fair are all guys that could commit Before/on August 1.

Other guys, 3* OG Drew Bobo and 3* DT Maxie Baudoin IV are others without set dates but possibly pre-season commitments.

I think Fair and Baudoin are probable 4* guys at some point

Pollard is committing Monday. Michigan seems pretty confident.

That seems evident to me. He’s also from Gatewood’s high school and you wonder what Auburn’s standing is there after the (rightly/wrongly) perceived Gatewood debacle.

I said before I wasn’t really sure about him as a football player but I like him as an athlete that’s capable of playing LB/DE.

I think overall I would’ve liked him in the class but a lot of these kids aren’t can’t miss targets. We had one trial period of recruitment and I think the staff did a good job of hosting as many camps and getting as many kids as possible familiar with the coaches and the program but that was a short amount of time to identify and bring in everyone you’re interested in. They’re going to need more time during the season and we really need these kids to see Auburn at full speed on game day. It’s really, really, good.

I wouldn't mind so much except it seems our prospect list at LB (and DL and OL) seems really short. What other LBs are we seriously pursuing right now?

It’s hard to say because with a limited period to see kids in June we can’t be confident that every target came through. In fact, at LB especially, the staff backed off a lot guys that ended up going other places.

I know I often sound like a mouthpiece for the current staff. There’s criticism and concern warranted and I’m not interested in suppressing that. I just don’t have the answers yet. Trying to figure it out too

I think the difference is your comments are, well, more rational whereas most of the rest of ours are pure emotion hopefully some more prospects come up over the course of the season too.

I think you will see ALOT of prospects come up once football starts, many of these kids have had very limited exposure....while they have been growing and developing over the past two years.

The staff has had to deal with circumstances that are completely out of their control that no other new Auburn staff has had to deal with before. It will work itself out over the next 18 months

Still hoping with a new system - and looking at the recruiting numbers rank wise...
quote:

Avg. Rating - Year -National Rank - SEC Rank (*eta: from 247)

0.8838 2021 19 07
0.9092 2020 07 05
0.9116 2019 11 06
0.9022 2018 12 03
0.8934 2017 09 04
...there's some positions we (board folk) are worried about that have filled from within. Guys who just didn't fit, talent wise and now do, kids that didn't leave for a good reason. And maybe the punch list, position wise, may not be as dismal it seems. Not to derail. Just considering the odds with such good numbers.

I know usually Jones has a numbers list by position... could there really be such for this year.. aside for normal attrition?

KN officially changed his CB on Micah Pollard to Mich. That one is a done deal.

Edit- New LB offer out to Joshua Josephs. 3* LB from North Cobb in Ga
