(and much better than a 5star bust)

I disagree. A championship can be won with 4* talent.

Anyone can bust so 4* and 5* guys are still the key. We have this conversation every damn month now
Better coaching can help us close the gap but great players make great programs. The coaches know that. But they’re probably struggling to get traction on this 2022 class. It shouldn’t be a bad class by any means and is probably not indicative of future recruiting success either.

I consider outside the top 20 bad for a program like AU. Define bad?

I agree with you. That would be a bad outcome. I think we will end up inside the top 20, closer to 15. And I’d expect the 4*+ to be equal or slightly greater than the 3* amount.
Probably depends on the situation. For example, I would argue now that every Auburn recruiting class in the last 3-4 years were bad due to the lack of OT recruiting. Inability to field a competent line from that position group has severely limited what our team can accomplish.
For this class, I really need to see projectable HS OT talent. I need two really good receivers. QB was essential and I think they nailed that. Also need to see DL, LB, and RB.
That’s basically all of the position groups, though
Not too concerned with the secondary or TEs this go-around. Though, it looks like both of those groups could be a strength

It will require some of the guys we possibly “lead” for to commit and get the big program bump. For us to be remotely close to Top15. If we took a snap shot of the recruits rankings now, I would be willing to bet we are closer to 25 then 15.
I suspect we don’t sign near 25 this class either. My guess is between 18-21 players.

We need a couple safeties this class and one really good corner. We could lose Mccreary and Miller both. We will lose smoke and the transfer from SEMO. Obviously we need quality OL but this class might just be a class of 5-6 lineman that are basically solid backups.

I expect rankings to shift quite a bit through the fall. So some of the 3* guys we’re in on will get a modest bump.
Our 2021 class ended at #19 with 5 4-stars and 13 3-stars and I think we’ll do a little better than that this class.
Completely agree

To me, just like how we are considered a top 15 program, to stay there or better requires a top 15 recruiting class too.
Anything less, except in the first year of a coaching change , to me is not where we SHOULD be on a consistent basis.

I expect between our last 3 coaches first year, you can go back and look for yourself.

Or, you know, since it’s your point, you could just complete the thought
Anyway, Wiltfong continues to like what he sees from Geriner at the Elite 11. Said he looks better, stronger than in the spring when they first bumped him up. Called him a marksman with velocity.

Feedback from neutral observers is his release is unorthodox. Not sure how that translates to the SEC, which we all know will humble a QB.

Mind posting that feedback?
Saw someone say his release was really quick. That’s all I’ve seen so far

Generally speaking, if a release is quick, concise, repeatable, then I’m generally not too concerned unless it’s a weird arm slot, but that doesn’t seem to be the case either. Interested to see what you have on this

Is this what you’re referencing? (Edit: it’s not what you’re referencing. This is the day 2 summary from SI)
I’m not sure that’s negative
quote:
t-12. Holden Geriner (Auburn commit) Score: 46, perfect throws: 9 As was the case for the bulk of the prospects on script, when Geriner crossed the 50-yard line, the Auburn commitment r really got into a rhythm. He impressed on some of the deeper throws like the rail shot and the vertical choice route in the end zone, where there was a coverage read mixed into the throw. Geriner drops and throws with good posture and has plenty of zip on the ball with his whip-like motion. At one point, the Peach Stater hit four straight money throws where he has long appeared most comfortable, while on the move.
