So you think a 6'1 RB has to be 225? You're a frickin idiot. Leave this board, now.

My point on RB recruiting is that we start w list of top backs and end up w none. DJ appeared on their rader 6 wks ago after we missed on all the guys we were after. That’s a fact. We missed on top backs every yr and end up settling for lower rated guys. Stop arguing the point because its true. Yes we did get Asa but well, you see where that got us. This yr there were five guys we had on our list and ehiffed on all. Meanwhile UGA gets Trey Sanders. We need to be honest with ourselves and stop being so defensive about everything. As for OL? Who the hech are we going to bring in at this point? And while others are bringing in 5/6 lineman, we have two digned in the position if greatest need. Gus is a joke and so are the O coaches....fact.

First off, hell of a melt! Impressive stuff

quote:

I get your frustration here. It does seem like we miss on a lot of our top backs though the "end up with none" ain't really true. Didn't work out with Asa or Barrett but they were both tier 1 options for AU at the time. But I do agree that AU seems to struggle to nail that #1 guy they target early & it sucks

quote:

DJ appeared on their rader 6 wks ago after we missed on all the guys we were after. That’s a fact.

You are correct he only showed up 6 weeks ago, not a fact that we missed on all our guys. Mark-Antony Richards is still on the board & has been a longtime top target. As for DJ, he appeared on EVERYONE'S radar just 6 weeks ago & become one of the most recruited prospects in the southeast. This is actually a big win for AU in their ability to find and land a talented player

quote:

Asa's situation is unfortunate but like you said he was a top back that we did get so clear we DONT miss EVERY year

quote:

Curious who you think the five guys are? Noah Cain & Kenny McIntosh were long time top targets that AU didn't land. Mark-Antony Richards is still on the board & AU is the favorite as of today. DJ Williams, whether you like it or not, joined that group once he was discovered

quote:

Meanwhile UGA gets Trey Sanders.

How you gonna rant about facts & then post something so wrong?

Yes we really do....

Won't find many people that disagree with ya here. OL recruiting has been a shitshow

It is a fact that you don't know what facts are

While your not wrong to point out the various things that have come up, these issues come up on every team...and it’s the head coach’s responsibility to manage them. Contingency plans, back-ups, working as hard at OL recruiting as you do scat-back/ATH recruiting, slam another scattered-and-smothered and make that one more visit, find somebody’s Mom a job in Auburn, something. I’m tired of Gus’ excuses.

Extreme ownership. Gus lacks it and several on this board (not the OP) give him a pass on it. I do not understand why. If you expect mediocrity, that’s exactly what you’ll get.

Sorry to derail this recruiting thread, but why didn't he get any looks at RB during the stretch in the season where Boobie was hurt, it was clear Kam wasn't gonna be the guy, and the Asa debacle going on? I know he was moved to DB before the season, but with the lack of depth we had at RB this season, it kinda made sense to me that he should have gone back and given some carries. I'm not positive but I don't think he stepped foot on the field on defense or ST this year.

So did he redshirt? Transfer? Seems like our DB depth is solid as of right now so why can't he move back to RB and give us a body with actual (although limited, I know) experience running the ball next year?

TigerPaw1 you are right and I firgot that Tray Sanders signed w UAT but that doesn’t negate that it was down to them and UGA.

We have missed on our RB and QB with the exception of KJ and Asa. I am not aline in saying such. And with few exceptions, our Oline recruits have been lacking in ability and numbers. We have been saved by transfers.

The O recruiting has been weaker compared to D. We have done well in bringing in receivers and this yr I applaud the TEs brought in. Sorry that some of you disagree but I am not and have never been a fan if Gus. And last ye this time I voiced my concern and am on record perhaps on another site that specifically due to RB and Oline AU was not going to be very good. The only thing that surprised me was Stidham’s lousy play and lack of care.

Breaks down our Oline recruiting. We do not recruit enough high school linemen.

Going into next year:

Seniors: Driscoll, Harrell, Horton, Kim, Sharp, Wanogho
Juniors: Sammons
Sophomores: Ashley, Brahms, Hamm, Manning, Troxell
Redshirt freshmen: Irvin, Stutts
True freshmen: Jones, Osborne

Just for a baseline, which seems sports writers fail to establish, Bama has 18 OL on the roster and we have 20. This is the 2018 roster.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I wonder why we struggle in this area?

Because we have a coach who has no long term plan for his teams and roster construction outside of a season or two, and doesn’t perform consistently enough on the field to get the talent every year to make up for it. But that’s none of my business.

But how many of those are walk-ons and how many are on scholarship?

Seems that someone pointed out in another thread that we have quite a few walk-ons to fill the roster, probably so we have enough to scrimmage against.
