Here's the thing on Tate & Bryant

Tate JUST now might be available to recruit and there is 0 idea on how interested he might be about Auburn

Bryant has been available for months and AU has been recruiting him for some time

So it's not that AU thinks Bryant > Tate, it's AU has recruited the best grad transfer QB available up to this point and it would be dumb to pass on one that might be willing to sign with you now and hope that you can get a visit from the one that just now became available

I've been highly critical of our OL but I will say while they were horrendous in run blocking they weren't terrible in pass protection. I'm not trying to pile on but there were many times Stidham had a clean pocket but bailed when his first or second read wasn't there and got himself in trouble.

Bryant adds at least 1 or 2 wins to our record next year in my opinion. Tate would probably be a better fit, but there's no guarantee that he would come here or even that he would be eligible to play next year. You have to take Bryant now if he wants to come aboard.

Watching the NFL especially, QB’s live around the line. You have a few that thrive on roll outs and that’s fine but a good QB uses his OL to position himself and set for a throw. Stidham basically wanted a concrete wall in front of him to feel comfortable

What I like about Bryant and even Nix on tape is that they hang around the OL. They step up to avoid sacks and they get the ball out. It’s OK to be knocked down if you get the ball out. Sometimes you have to. Stidham didn’t like that

so based on what I've heard within the AU locker room, our best chance of avoiding some transfers is landing Kelly Bryant. I love his toughness.

I, for one, think that our OL will be a good bit better next year if they continue to improve as they did near the end of the season.

Sounds like they are saying Stidham is a douche. From the outside, he never seemed to merge into the football teams internal culture.

We need to just recruit 6-7 OL that are strong and aggressive. Who cares if they are 6'6 with long arms, we don't pass anyways

Putnam and Keiondre Jones DEFINITELY fit into that category. Honestly haven't watched much of our OT commit to judge him.

Yep. Stidham looks the part, but you can tell he isn't comfortable in the pocket passed his second read.

Osborne, with these two (if we get Putnam, please) and throw in Webb, okay a dream, and we are set.

apparently we're not in a horrible spot with one of the OTs committed to Bama (I think Amari Knight?). I think I'd heard something about him recently. Probably will get that scrap when Bama lands Evan Neal.

If that includes Shivers, Schwartz, or Seth Williams, I will personally nut-punch Gus, Stidham, Leath or whoever I dadgum have to.

How a QB fits with an OL seems to be very important.
Remember when Russell Wilson was choosing bt Auburn and WIsconsin? His reason for picking Wisconsin, he said, was bc of its stronger OL.

Stidham did well last year in this same offense we were using this year with some additional tweaks CL might have added. Why? bc he had a strong veteran OL.

Now Stidham still has those same weaknesses (happy feet in pocket, inability to move around in pocket still looking downfield, and ofc throwing inaccurately if he is getting pressure and throws off his back foot).

But I don't blame Stidham. We got what we got...

Culture had nothing to do with it with the success he and the team were highly successful with the offense last year.

Its just losing tends to bring out all the true and FALSE reasons for why....

I saw this stat yesterday:

"75 SEC players had more TD receptions than Auburn WR Ryan Davis in 2018. Only 3 had more receptions"

How many had more TDs than Kerryon Johnson? Because we run in the red zone and Slayton and Hastings were the deep threats.

Thats a BS stat. Ryan Davis will be a Slot God in the NFL. Les Snead still runs the Rams, right? Cooper Kupp just blew out his knee, right?

Not that it had any real legs here at AU, other than some suggesting he come to AU as OC, but Kliff Kingsbury just signed on as USC's OC.

Kelly Bryant met with Mack Brown yesterday:

quote:

Mack Brown hit the recruiting trail for the first time as North Carolina’s head coach on Wednesday evening and his first stop was to see Kelly Bryant, his trainer Ramon Robinson confirmed to Inside Carolina. “It went well from what I understood,” Robinson said.

it doesn't, from what I hear. None of the major contributors. Mostly the guys that 247 included in their transfer/NFL piece.

If this is true, it speaks volumes as to the trust level (or rather, lack thereof) our players have for Malik Willis. Interesting.
