I wanted Maurice Hurst so badly. He’s one of the best players in the draft.

Also, will Hernandez is still on the board.

Goedert and James Washington are still available. We could have grabbed Bryan, and they picked one of those 2 in round 2

If you know the tendencies of this front office and how they work, you would know that BJ Hill will be our pick in the second round. We were all over him at the senior bowl, and have had a lot more contact since. He is the guy that this staff wants.

Anyone think we trade up in the 2nd or wait in our spot?

Several teams bolstered already great units instead of drafting a need.

Jags DT
Falcons WR
Vikings CB
Broncos DE

I don't hate the idea of being dominant in an area. Falcons should dominate in the passing game.

I say let's hold our ground and not pull a saints and give up a pick this year and a first rounder next year

This was so amazing. I am awaiting Gravy's spin on this and since we picked up the best player available, he has no comeback

Looking at some mocks. These are all over the place. I want to see a DT

Second-round mock: Tyler Crosby, T, Oregon: Crosby could start out at guard for the Falcons and eventually move outside to tackle.

Braden Smith, G, Auburn

58. Atlanta Falcons: Virginia Tech DT Tim Settle

58. Atlanta Falcons: Malik Jefferson, LB, Texas

Our picks have a nice balance: 26th, 58, 90, 126, 200, 244, 256. Not many huge gaps in there.

After the trade, the Saints are now 14, 91, 127, 164, 189, 201, 245. So 77 players drafted between their first a second picks, and they don't have a second round pick this year or a first round pick next year. They must feel like they can make a deep playoff push this year and that's the reason for giving up so much.

Fingers crossed Hirst or Rasheem Green are available

I saw the pick and laughed cause I thought of this too. RohanGravy is gonna have to eat his own crow. Except I'm sure he'll rationalize NO's dumbass pick and say that Ridley had the best QBs ever throwing him the ball at Bama (which is comical).

Saints/LSU Fan: Jalen Hurts absolutely sucks and so does Bama.

Sants/LSU Fan after a Bama player goes to a team: Eh, they're not that good, they're a product of the system.

Lots of good players out there that could drop to us. I could not believe it when Moore got drafted before Ridley.

The only reason the Saints are not getting completely blasted right now is because they are getting the benefit of the doubt from the success of previous drafts.

So it sounds like Ridley was the top guy all along based on Quinn and Dimitroff's comments. And they feel like this is a deep class at d-line.

quote:

"No, not surprised," Dimitroff said. "Honestly, as we were tracking what was going on in the early 20's of the draft and the players that were going, we knew if there was going to be a run on interior [offensive] linemen that there would potentially be a good opportunity to pop a guy like Ridley in that situation, no question about it. No, we weren't surprised; we were incredibly encouraged that he was there as he was getting closer and closer."

Many believed the Falcons would opt to select a defensive tackle with their first pick in the draft, but they opted to go offense in the first round for the first time under head coach Dan Quinn. The Falcons have said on multiple occasions that they believe this is a deep class at a number of positions, and they believe there are still quality players available for them in the coming rounds.

They went with a boom or bust guy. Not sure you trade up for that.

Lets hope he busts!!! Quickly!

I didn't realize Calvin and Julio had been working out together this off season. The more I read into it, the more excited I am about this pick. Should give us a high-powered offense for years.

quote:

Calvin Ridley excited to reunite with Steve Sarkisian, learn from Julio Jones

quote:

"I think I get open really well," Ridley said in a conference call with Atlanta media. "I think with that offense that has Coach Sark and I think he's going to do a great job, I think I'm going to do really well."

quote:

Jones has spent his offseason working out in Tuscaloosa at Alabama's facility where Ridley was also working out for a period of time. The two receivers ran through drills together and spent time talking about the game. All interactions Ridley greatly appreciated. Now they'll be teammates, and Ridley couldn't be more excited about it. "I'm very excited to be coming in with Julio," Ridley said. "I know I'm going to learn a lot from him and become a better player. I'm very happy to be in that organization."

Thoughts on Maurice Hurst? I know he had the health issue, but before that he was a first round pick.

It’s never good news to be off the draft board of multiple teams, but that’s exactly what’s happening to Maurice Hurst, according to ESPN’s Todd McShay. Not only have some teams taken Hurst off their board, but McShay also believes that Hurst could slip in the draft all the way to day three on Saturday, which are rounds four-seven. “Because of the nature of his heart condition, several teams have taken him off their board. It’s a risk-reward issue, but he could fall into Day 3,” McShay said. The key word here is “could” fall into day 3, that doesn’t mean Hurst should or will. While I’m sure McShay did hear teams have taken Hurst off their board and that he could fall into day three, that nature of his heart condition isn’t precedent for Hurst to have a crazy downward spiral when it comes to his draft stock.

wouldn't mind taking in in 3rd Rd if available
