Falcoholic link. D Orlando Ledbetter from AJC says they're willing to trade up for him if he gets past the Chargers at 17. Seattle picks 18, they want to move down, and Atlanta has traded with them in the past, including last year to move up for Takk.

ETA: Payne has been at the top of my wish list for awhile and I'd be thrilled if the Falcons can get him without having to give up a 1st in 2019

We'd have to move up to get him, I'm just coming to that as a realization that is 99.9999999999% fact at this point.

I really like his game and think it'd be worth maybe a 3rd and a 6th to move up to get him

As a bama fan, he was a bit inconsistant for my liking. He really shined in the NC run we had and the title game but was MIA in some early and mid season games.
This is my biggest question mark about him.

I'd still take him 1st though, just not sure I'd trade up for him because of those M.I.A. games. But everyone at the college level has some flaws that get scrutinized right now.

I remember reading the chatter amongst Bama fans that he took some plays off. When he's on he's great, but sometimes he sort of fell out of the picture.

I'm not sure I would trade up for him unless it was cheap (e.g., a couple spots for a late round pick), but I'm curious what games you thought he was MIA for? Stats wise you could look and say there were a couple of games where he didn't get much in the books but I can't ever remember watching and thinking - Payne in the middle is getting outplayed or anything even close to it. I thought he did his job pretty much every time he was out there. With the carnage in the LB corp I thought he did a great job of holding shite together actually.

I think he is going to be really good NFL interior dlineman and is worthy of the 26th pick for the Falcons and if they could move up without giving up a 1st or a 2nd then I wouldn't hate them moving up for him.

ETA: He will need to improve his pass rushing in the NFL. I know that wasn't his role at Bama but he has the athleticism to be decent from the middle. He doesn't need to be strictly a two down player with his athleticism.

Quinn has shown an ability to get the most out of his defensive draft picks, particularly on the line. I think he could turn Payne into a stud in the NFL

It sucks after making 2 deep runs in the playoffs the birds just can't sit back and take the best available player, they HAVE to take a DT early. Payne would be a good fit IMO, don't be surprised if they take another DT in the 2nd rd. also assuming they do not trade the pick. I've read they really like BJ Hill also from NC St.

If you look at the roster, it's really the only hole besides some depth spots

I dunno.

LB has holes.
Oline has holes or just isn't great.
Secondary isn't great or underperforms.
WR could use upgrading too.

LB
Jones(3rd yr), Campbell(3rd yr, Riley(2nd yr)

CB
Trufant(top 10 in league), Alford(solid), Neal(very good), Ishmael(solid).....3rd corner maybe(Poole)

WR
Julio, Sanu,.....need third

None of these positions are of huge need.

Did y'all just see what the saints did? They traded up to #14 and gave Green Bay #27, #147, and 2019 1st round pick for some guy named Davenport from UT-SanAntoio. Wow

Tavan Bryan or Calvin Ridley. If both are gone, trade the frick back. Be the opposite of the Saints (retarded).
