The Braves will non-tender infielder/outfielder Charlie Culberson prior to tonight’s deadline, Robert Murray reports (via Twitter). MLB.com’s Mark Bowman tweeted not long before that the organization was considering such a move. Culberson will immediately become a free agent who is eligible to sign with any team.

I think they’ll bring him back. Maybe that’s just me though.

He is set to make less than 2 million. This wasnt a cost cutting move. The team had 40 players on the roster. They now have 37(Ortega/Murphy released).

The Braves organization doesnt value Charlie as much as the fans do. That was obvious last year when he never played, even when every other option was playing like crap.

He gone.

anyone else think Donaldson is a Brave next year

Mike Moustakas signed a 4yr/$64 million deal with the Reds. This will set up the Donaldson contract, and it’s likely going to be higher than Moose’s new deal.

He provided some good moments and was a valuable flex piece off the bench but very quietly, like McCann, he wasn't hitting worth a shite in the second half of last season. Regression found Culberson and hit him hard.

If so,screw this signing.

I’d love to hear the rational from AA on this one. 18 million for a guy who had an era close to 6 the last half of the season. At least it’s only 1 year.

Even with Hamels signing, how do we not have enough money to not sign JD? Payroll was $173m last season. Gross revenues were over $400m in 2018, I assume they’re likely the same or more in 2019. It seems like there should be plenty of extra cash to get JD for $20m/4yr.

I'm hoping we explore the trade market for a 3B or COF...I'd definitely re-sign Donaldson but if Bryant is out there or big COF bat let's try to do that too.

Where are you getting $173 million?I'm seeing $128 million LINK

I know the Braves are rolling in revenue but they continually bitch about cost outside their payroll (new spring training
facility and their debt on Sun Trust)

This is correct, 128. The highest we have gone lately is into the 130s, or right above the league average. They had a ton a money come off the books so they literally had to spend to fill the roster. We still need a good starter and a third basemen. If we don’t do anything else, we are equivalent to last year but with a good bullpen, lacking enough starting pitching, and minus josh Donaldson. We shall see where they go from here.

the SunTrust and BBT merger appears to be complete. They say that the branding change will take about 2 years and that the stadium name change will likely be at the end of the process. Hopefully we'll get two more seasons before having to deal with Truist Park

Mark Bowman @mlbbowman · 21h Not surprising, but there is growing expectation Donaldson will end up with a four-year deal. One thing to keep in mind is the possibility the DH could be added to the NL after the 2021 season.
