Starting this several weeks earlier than anticipated, unfortunately.

McCann has retired.

Notable potential free agents:
Donaldson
Teheran (team option)
Markakis
Keuchel
Flowers
O'Day
Swarzak

I want to see Donaldson here for a few more years. Decline Teheran's option and let him walk. Let Flowers walk. Tell Keuchel thank you and let him walk too.

I want to see offers made to Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, Anthony Rendon (if we can't agree to a Donaldson extenson), and Yasmani Grandal. We obviously can't get them all because of financial flexibility but offers should be made.

Upgrading catcher should be top priority. Starting pitching needs an upgrade but that may come from within if Anderson and Wright can step up.

Bullpen still needs a MAJOR upgrade. Greene and Melancon are both huge reasons why this season is over.

Personally, I would listen to offers for anyone under contract other than Acuna, Albies, Swanson, Soroka, Fried, Riley, and Anderson. That includes Freeman after this series.

The Braves will have some money to spend. For the moment, I am not a fan of them bending the knee to PC. It was 1 player from another team that didn't play in game 7.

Does Freeman have one or two more years left in his deal?

I honestly think next year will be a huge step back for this team. In certain ways we got pretty fortunate to get such good numbers out of Donaldson, Freeman had an mvp type year, Markakis was good most of the season, and dumpster bullpen guys like Jackson and Swarzak had their moments. The playoffs are the real indicator of how good your team is, not the regular season, we face planted. I don’t see us spending more money, if not less. The only guy I can see is trying to resign is Donaldson, but I doubt we do. If Freeman is going on his last year we need to gauge his future plans, he can say one thing in the public, but be totally intent on going home to finish his career with the Dodgers.

Definitely re-sign Donaldson and I think he'll be contract friendly as he seemed to like playing for ATL.

Teheran can kick rocks.
Markakis can kick rocks.
Keuchel can kick rocks.
Flowers was an ok backup
O'Day blah...
Swarzak blah...

Melancon can be our closer. He was good but not great.

I dunno. We had a good core for Offense but our pitching has been the shitshow last season and this season and it showed in the playoffs.

This team needs some hardasses. When the Cardinals threw at Acuna multiple times, no one in the dugout did anything. They didn't do shite when the Marlins threw at him either. We don't have a pitcher willing to throw at other guys in retaliation. I want to see someone throw at Molina's head next year but no one has the balls.

I know Im in the minority, but I dont want snit as manager...I think we won in spite of him this year. Id rather have Ron Washington all day but I have a feeling the Phillies or Mets are about to poach him from us

I'd fire Snit for Washington in a heartbeat

Donaldson absolutely needs to be resigned, unless we somehow get rendon, which seems incredibly unlikely. Riley needs work if he is going to be part of this team
I know I'm in the minority, but I hope they bring Teheran back. The rotation seems set to be way to heavily weighted towards our young guys
Markakis will be back. He is cheap, and this front office won't be willing to dish out for a free agent improvement when we have waters and pache in AAA. I hate it, but we all know its true
Flowers is probably the same, though our catching prospects are farther of. We will have to go out and get someone else to catch, but grandal seems unlikely.
the rest should be gone.
It will be interesting to see how arbitration goes. We have a lot of guys who are eligible who it might not make sense to bring back.
Freeman isn't going anywhere, nor should he. That said, he needs to pull his head out of his arse and realize what it actually means to be a team leader. He tried to be a hero instead of getting healthy in September when we had a big lead, and thats why he was completely useless this series

Phoenix messed that up. Which is a shame, because they are probably stupid enough to have given him up in the miller trade. There was no way the Astros were giving up a top prospect and an mlb centerfielder

If that's the case (and I agree they don't want to lock up outfielders long term to block Pache and Waters), then give them a shot to earn a starting role in spring training next year. I'd be fine with Acuna set at one spot - and then a glorified free for all between Inciarte, Duvall, Riley, Pache, and Waters for the other two spots and 4th outfielder.

I’m thinking it might actually help to be a little less heavy on stars and scrubs. If their options get declined, they need to be poking around Moustakas and Grandal (offering him a good high AAV short term deal and some more rest in season, like 110 games started).

Others can tell me what they want until they can’t breathe, but I don’t think I really buy that we can get by with punting catcher on offense like, per say, Boston did in their 2018 championship season unless you have major internal improvements. Albies and Swanson could continue their great improvements this year (at least Swanson’s first half which did actually mostly look buyable), but as things look by itself, you have 4 solid to star guys and questions as of right now again offensively. You’d really probably need for Acuna to put together a full MVP type year and for Albies to basically be what Xander’s been at times (which he hinted at after a bad May), and that’s the start.

If Keuchel wasn't happy with the offers he got last winter, he needs to prepare himself for some real disappointment this winter.
